Carnival Celebration Docks at RelaxAway — Then Leaves as Swells Make New Pier Unsafe

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Celebration had to abandon its September 25 visit to RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay after the ship successfully docked at the destination’s new pier but ocean swells made it unsafe to remain alongside. Cruise Hive reported the development from passenger accounts, a shipboard announcement and a letter from Captain Vincenzo Alcaras. The scheduled island day became a sea day, with Carnival-sold shore excursions refunded to guests’ Sail & Sign accounts. Cruise Hive

The incident is particularly notable because the new pier was built to expand direct docking access to RelaxAway, including for Carnival’s Excel-class ships. Carnival confirmed when announcing the completed expansion on June 1 that the pier enables Excel-class vessels to visit the destination.
