Carnival Encounter will skip Cairns on its September 5 Great Barrier Reef sailing from Brisbane after reduced channel depths left the route to Cairns Cruise Terminal too shallow for the ship to safely transit, according to a guest notice reported by Cruise Hive.
The six-night voyage is now expected to keep its scenic call at Willis Island on September 7, move Airlie Beach forward to September 8, and add Townsville on September 9 in place of Cairns. The ship is also scheduled to return to Brisbane at 8 a.m. on September 11, one hour later than originally planned. Carnival is refunding pre-purchased Cairns shore excursions, according to the notice.
