A heart-stopping moment evolved into a miracle today when a young girl plummeted into the sea from aboard Disney Cruise Line’s, Disney Dream prompting her father to leap in after her without a second thought.
Fortunately, both the father and his daughter were promptly rescued by the ship’s crew.
The event unfolded while the Disney Dream was en route back to Port Everglades from the Bahamas. Passengers heard an urgent broadcast, “Mr. M.O.B. portside,” indicating “man overboard.” Onlookers on the ship witnessed the crew reduce speed and toss life rings into the ocean.

One passenger, Dewayne Smith, recounted on Facebook:
“We are aboard the Disney Dream today and just witnessed a first on a cruise. A little girl fell overboard and her dad jumped in to save her. Man overboard calls were made immediately. The Disney crew sprang into action right away. There were countless prayers among the passengers! Both the little girl and her dad were safely rescued.”
The incident also reportedly happened while the ship was fully in-motion halfway between the Bahamas and Florida, making a rescue even more complicated.
One passenger noted that roughly 10 minutes after the alarm, a rescue boat was dispatched. The courageous father had been treading water for about 20 minutes when he and his daughter were located by the lifeboat within just 3 to 5 minutes.
Online, many marveled at how unexpected it was for a child to go overboard, considering the high safety standards with which Disney’s ships are designed, featuring tall railings and glass barriers.
