Fire and Power Loss Reported on Icon of the Seas

A small, isolated fire in a crew area has been reported aboard the World’s largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean International’s NEW Icon of the Seas.

The fire occurred on Tuesday afternoon while the ship was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico. It was quickly extinguished by onboard fire team with no reported injuries as reported by Seatrade Cruise News.

Power Restored

Power was also quickly restored as Icon of the Seas’ backup generators went into action and power to all parts of the ship was quickly restored, per the report.

Cruise To Continue, Damage Unknown

No information or specifics of any immediate damage were yet available, but Icon of the Seas will sail as planned, the spokesperson said.

Many of the passengers onboard were still ashore but, the gangways were temporarily closed during the response.

Icon of the Seas is the first ship in the Icon Class and is 250,800 GT’s. She carries 5,496 passengers (based on two per cabin) with a total guest capacity of 6,826.

She is currently on a seven-day roundtrip sailing that departed from PortMiami on June 22. A call at Cozumel is scheduled Wednesday.
