I had my first bad experience aboard the Legend (departing Tampa) 9/9/07...
The food was the worst I have ever had- the meat was over seasoned and overmarinated to hide the "going bad" taste, you could see what was left over from last nights dinner was chopped up and made into the next nights pasta dish...but thats not my main complaint...
The destinations ports! Cozamel & Grand Caymen were great....
Belize- was still dealing with cleanup from the hurricane (boarded up wondows, debris everywhere), we got to watch a dead dog float around in the water where the tender dropped us off- crew members, local "police" ect all saw it- no one botheres to pull it out (smelled lovely too)...but worse yet- this was our view from the Wet Lizard (A great bar) that Carnival suggested... Dead Dog visual with those Jalapeno Wrappers anyone?
Roatan! No electricity- the shopping "hut" mall where the boat let us debark...well picture this...
Dirt floors- "indoor" (meaning there was a roof in the shopping mall), no air, no lights, you can barely see b/ c there is little sunlight coming in at the 2 ends, cluttered, and men kept walking up right behing me wispering "cocaine? pot? extasy?"...OMG! I was terrified. I literally clung to my hubby (and my purse) as we walked back to the ship. What was Carnival thinking taking us someplace with no electricity! I heard some of the excursions on the island were good- but we were only docked until 2 or 3 pm, and after sleeping in we just ran out of time and decided on just doing a bit of shopping- HUGE MISTAKE! I just can't believe I paid to go to Roatan. I overheard a fun group of ladies saying at dinner that they got off the ship, walked 10 feet and decided it wasn't safe and reboarded. So atleast I know I am not the only one that was scared.
I don't know- Many other Carnival ships were rerouted- I wish we were~ As my 4th cruise with Carnival- I am so suprised I had a negative experience.
And oh- Way too many crew members didn't speak any english- I won't tell you what happened when I tried to order a simple tuna on wheat sandwich.
BUT! The layout of the ship was wonderful- much better than the Glory (which has a Galley or something) in the middle that makes it had to get from one end of the ship to the other. It does need new paint- which we were told it is getting in December- but overall- I prefer this medium size to the larger Glory size anyday.
And the Extended Balcony Suite was also great, as always.
I just hated ending a good 7 day cruise with these 2 scary ports! What a bummer!
