Never been to a cruise but been to Mexico, we're going to Ensenada for June 21. I don't mind the swine flu but I have a 16 month daughter. What do you all think? From reading a few posts here, it doesn't seem to be that big a deal. They offer insurance with heli lift but that's after the fact. Ofcourse we'll be taking the normal precautions which pretty much are the normal things to do when even a normal flu is going around (i.e. watch where you touch, wash hands regularly, stay away from infected).

It will be our only trip this year and it's turned from exciting to dreading like a trip that we're going with face masks and gloves. We contemplated postponing or changing destinations but we're too late. Only 50% back from total fare for refund.

Don't cancel. Go on your cruise. And, why would you be wearing face masks and gloves? Is this some sort of knee-jerk reaction to media hype? I work in a hospital emergency department, where we are much more exposed to various grems, bug and 'stuff'. We don't routinely wear PPE (personal protective equipment), except gloves, and then only when ther is an open wound/blood. We do wash our hands often. If we have a patient who is sneezing, we have them wear the mask.

I guess I will give my mask to a sneezing passenger. I was not really serious about the PPE but that's how we feel because we hear people dying from this flu and I am bringing my baby daughter to a ship where you are sort of quarantined with any passenger who maybe sick or picks it up from the port on the way back.

Don't over-react to the swine flu. So far, world-wide, there have been 92 fatalities attributed to H1N1 (Swine Flu) with 12 in the United States. Putting it into perspective, regular/common human influenza kills over 35,000 every year in this country, and highway traffic deaths average over 40,000 per year! Of course, the mass media is not going to tell you this, as it doesn't sell papers or air-time.

Thank you for the wake up call, I think just for peace of mind we'll sign up the heli lift for me daughter.

By "heli-lift" I assume you're spaeking of medical evacuation coverage / cruise insurance. Oh yes. Cruise insurance is an absolute. Even if it's not for the medical aspect, there are many other potential problems it covers. Lost luggage, delayed flights, cancellation within the penalty period, etc.
