1st Day on Board??

Once you embark and you've visited your cabin (but your bags havent arrived yet) what attire should be worn for the embarking process and then going to your assigned dinner time (with no time to change b/c the luggage hasnt arrived to your room yet?) I'm picturing people in casual shorts and sandles for the embarking process(especially if you have to stand around for hours as they are doing in Gulfport right now). By the time you have traveled there and lugged all your luggage to the pier and gone through embarking....I'm ready for a shower and a change of clothes!! What will be acceptable in the dining room on the 1st day for situations like this?

Hi Christi,
Pack a change of casual clothes for dinner the first night in your carry-on. It is only your Checked Luggage that you leave at the pier to be delivered later to your cabin. You keep your carry-on with you. I have been embarking in shorts and a t-shirt, and then change for dinner later on. On the first night, it is always casual, and no-one in the dining room will say anything if you come in shorts (I saw that on our last cruise on the Spirit), especially if you tell them your luggage hasn't arrived yet.

Anyway, in my carry-on, I pack a pair of cotton pants and a nice top. I also pack my swimsuit, flip flops, nightie, toiletries and cosmetic bag. I also pack my jewellery in my carry-on., and if you have any medications that you need, these need to be packed in your carry-on, too.

Hope this helps.

Carry a bathing suit in your carry-on. I like to be one of the first on board and if it's nice be one of the first things fellow passengers see...sitting in one of the best pool chairs with a frozen thingee already.

Just wear whatever you have on, other than a swim suit, to dinner the first night.
As stated, just mention that your luggage has not arrived and no one will care.
They will not throw you out.

Chances are that your luggage will make it in time.

Ours made it within an hour of our boarding.

No need to tell anyone if you didn't get your luggage -- they will not say anything to you regardless. You will most likely see lots of people dressed very casually the first night; that's always the most casual night of the cruise. We've always had late seating and have never had a problem receiving our checked luggage in plenty of time to change for dinner. I do remember one cruise (I think it was on the Sensation), where our sons were *hoping* we didn't get the luggage in time because the cabin steward told us it was perfectly acceptable to wear shorts the first night because the luggage would be late getting to the cabins. We did get our luggage in time and they changed into dockers. ;)

On the first night pretty much is accepted in the diningroom, except swimsuits. We have always had our luggage arrive before dinner, if not I would go in my usual embarkation outfit. Hey I love dinner in the diningroom. :) Have fun.... :grin

The very first thing you should do it grab a drink! And then maybe check out your room, and then grab another drink and wander around. You are going to have soooo much fun - no one cares who is wearing what.

Be Sure and pack a couple bottle of cold wine in your carry on, along with a cork-screw. Or purchase a couple of frozen Foo-Foo drinks and you will "good to go" by dinner time.

The cruises have gotten so informal no one will notice. I never realized it until I got home and started to work with my pictures how many people wore T-shirts in the dinning room in the evening. It never bothered me, and I didn't even realize it at the time...

You may have already cruised. If so, let us know how you made out with your concern.

I never pack a carry-on bag with a change of clothes, and my luggage has always made it to my cabin in plenty of time for a shower & change for dinner. Fortunate/lucky? Maybe. I should mention though that I always opt for late dinner so that might help in my 'luck'. Also, none of my tablemates have ever had to show up in shorts/sneakers for the first night in the dining room so the cruise lines must be doing something right in that luggage delivery! :)

And, if my luggage didn't arrive in time, I personally would opt out for casual dining instead of my assigned table in the main dining room.

Enjoy your journey!
