hello, i have a cruise scheduled this march going to bahamas.. i have some dumb questions..

once we get to bahamas and leave the ship, swim in the beach..
can we just go back to the ship all wet?
do we need to carry our passports everytime we leave the ship?
if we leave the ship at 7:00 am to tour the beach can we go back to the ship to eat lunch then leave again then go back again in the afternoon?

thanks,

Yes, you can return to the ship all wet. The ship will not be hurt by the water. Even salt water. Even on the inside.

You do not need to carry your passports with you while in the Bahamas. In fact I would suggest that you don't. I suggest that you leave your passports in the safe in the cabin. Those over 16 will need need their room key and a government issued ID (driver's license). Those under 16 only need their room key.

Some will advise you that you should take your passport with you. If there is any chance you will miss the ship, then take your passport with you. Otherwise, to avoid any chance of losing it, I recommend that you leave it in the safe.

You can exit and board the ship as many times as you want in port. Even if you are wet (in fact, even if you are not wet). You can leave before breakfast, return for breakfast, leave after breakfast, return for lunch, leave after lunch, return for afternoon tea, leave after afternoon tea, return for dinner, leave after dinner and then return for late night snacks.

You will be expected to be on board 30 minutes before the ship is scheduled to leave, or the ship will leave without you (even if you are not wet).

If you take me serious, it's your problem
thanks..

so basically i just need my drivers license to go back to the ship...

i have another question regarding money..
i assume they accept US dollars in bahamas and aboard the ship right?

Pretty much most all of the carribean accepts US dollars. Although do not expect to get an accurate change back. I found that in mexico and Belize most of the locals are not current with exchange rates and you will get a varied difference in the change you recieve.

You can always exchange USD's for the local currencies at the pursers desk onboard. You will usually find a currency exchange somewhere in most ports, or nearby shopping plazas.

Also, The Bahamian Dollar is the same value as the USD, so you don't need to exchange them in the bahamas. So if an item is selling for 39.99BD it will also be 39.99USD as well...

You need your driver's license (or any other government issued ID) AND your room key to get back on the ship.

Yes, US dollars are accepted in the Bahamas. However, US dollars are not accepted on board the ship, except to pay your on board account. You must set up an on board account, using either cash or a credit card. Then EVERYTHING (with the possible exception of gambling in the ship's casino) will be charged to your on board account.

If you go to the ship's store and want to by a $3.99 key chain, the store will not accept cash. You have to charge it to your on board account. Your room key serves as your on board credit card, your pass to get on and off the ship and to get into your room. Don't forget it when you leave the room, as the door will lock automatically behind you.

thank a lot.. just 1 more question.. since the room key serves as sort of my "ticket" on and off the ship.. i will be travelling with my wife and 2-year old kid.. should we all have 3 keys as "ticket"? or just one is enough for 3 of us to get on and off the ship?

thanks,

When you board the ship for the first time you will insert your card into a machine at security. That machine will take your picture and imbed it on the magnetic strip on the card. When you exit the ship you will insert the card in to the machine. It will show your picture on a screen so the security guard sees that it is you getting off the ship. It also tells the ship's computer that you are not on board. Same thing when you get back on board. Insert the card. Security sees that you are the person who is supposed to be getting on board and the ship's computer knows that you are "present and accounted for". Each of you must have your own card.

EVERYONE will have his or her own room key/charge card. One of you will hold your 2 year old up so that they can take his/her security picture. Then you will have three room keys/charge cards. Of course you or your wife will be expected to hold your child's room key/charge card.

That said, I have my doubts about the information on the magnetic strip on the back of the card. The card has a bar code and I think at the computer reads the bar code, not the magnetic strip. I don't think the picture is encoded on the card, I think it is saved in the computer and is called up by the bar code on the back of the card. I might be wrong about this, but I do have a reason for my theory.

another dumb question.. so if all of us are swimming in the beach at the same time.. are there any safety box in bahamas where we could leave our keys, wallets, etc..

thanks,

well, i wouldn't take my wallet with me for one. There are water tight lanyards you can put your passport and room keys in.

here's a link:

http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/softcases.html

that should help keep your items dry at the beach, and safely on your person. I personally wouldn't leave any of those things anywhere, at any time off ship. the ones with the lanyards attached for carrying around your neck work great.
