Hey everyone,
a little bit of help wanted there is just so much stuff to take in when trying to oganise a cruise!! i am booking a cruise for april of next yr for my BFs 25th iv narrowed it down to Carnival (yeyyyy) and the mexican riveria or western carribean. Departure port anywer in florida its still gona cost me regardless wer the ship takes off from!! i see the ships legend, valour and splendor are on these routes. Cant decide between them or the routes!!! arghh too much choice. I know splendor will be the newest out of these will we be spoiling ourselves if we go on this ship first for futher cruises (that is the plan!!) or should we go on a older ship first. We love being kept busy and exploring new places and i know the BF would love a cruise so organising it in secret so the pressure is on!! any help would be very much appreciated.

None of the list ships are that old. The Carnival Legend began service in August 2002. The Carnival Valor began service in December 2004. The Splendor has not begun service yet.

Since the Splendor is not out yet, I don't really know how it compares to other Carnival ship. However, I believe it is just going to be a bigger version of the Conquest class (the Valor is a Conquest class ship). Nonetheless, when looking at the deck plans I don't see a water slide, so it is hard to tell what the Splendor will be like when compared to the other ships. The deck plans do show that the Splendor will have the Sea Side Theater (a large screen TV for watching movies or sporting events while out by the pool).

Nonetheless, my favorite class of Carnival ship is the Spirit class. The Legend is a Spirit class ship. So, based on ship alone, I would pick the Legend.

If I were you, I would look to see which ports interest you the most, and pick the ship that goes to those ports.

Here is a photo of the Carnival Glory (which is what the Carnival Valor would look like) ...

Here is a picture of the Sea Side Theater ...

Here is a picture of the water slide on the Carnival Glory (it would be the same on the Carnival Valor) ...

And here is a picture of the Carnival Legend ...

We have done both cruises you are considering. The Mexican Riviera is usually out of Los Angeles California. The Ship we were on was somewhat smaller than the Legend ((the Imagination). The Ports we visited were breathtaking (Puerta Valarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas).
We have sailed from the west coast twice and both times (January and February) the Pacific was very unfriendly. Twice they had to take down the buffets on one cruise because it was so rough they were thrown all over the floor. I am told the Pacific is typically rougher than the Atlantic side. My only experience was the two months I mentioned.

The Western Carib is also a beautiuful Mexican cruise (we did on the Ecstacy) we loved it. The Mexican culture slightly different in that you will be introduced to Myan cultture which we found facinating. All of our Atlantic cruises were much smoother at those same times of the year (not that we didn't experience any rough seas, just far less of it). Either side you choose you will find the Mexicans to be a friendly people

Flying in from your side of the Atlantic it would seem to me an easier task to take the Western Carib (5 hrs less flying time). It really is a can't miss cruise. ENJOY!
