Thanks to all who have responded to my previous post.

I realize that there are those that don't tip in addition to the standard that is added to your account. But to those that do...How much and how early in the cruise should we tip our cabin steward in advance to (help) assure good service? We really don't ask for additional assistance but we'll be on a 15 day cruise and I want the steward to know that we appreciate him/her. (If I'm reading the tipping policy correctly, $10.00 per person per day is divided between your cabin steward and dining room staff. I'm hoping our service will be fantastic, in which case $10.00 split among the group doesn't seem to be enough.)

Also, has anyone participated in the Scholarships@Sea program? What would you recommend and how much did they charge?

Again, thanks in advance.

I have tipped extra in advance and just used the standard and I recieved the same excellent service from all Princess staff regardless.

My daughter wanted to do the ceramic painting. When she got there she found out it was $35 to paint a coffee mug! She decided not to!

We just returned from a cruise on the Sun Princess. We considered Pre-tipping also but we did not. Not sure if it would of helped or not. The good thing about not Pre-tipping is you don't get ripped off even more if the service is poor. We felt ripped off at only the $10 a day rate because the service was so bad. Would hate to have really been taken to the cleaners by Pre-tipping and having the same service.
Good Luck

I've also tipped the cabin steward in advance and it certainly got his attention. Not sure whether we received better service or not, but we did give him the tip on the very first day when he came to introduce himself.

My son participated in a computer Power Point Scholarship at Sea program that was $25 for the one session. If I had it to over again, I would've signed up for quite a few classes. The instructor was excellent, the class size was small and it was an easy, convenient way to learn. There were very basic learners in my son's class ("What's a mouse?") to those that knew about as much as he did (more than I do). He felt it was a very worthwhile experience.
