Since I had such bad toothache the past week, (it is better by the way)I had been eating lots of soup, warmed in the microwave. It had splashed and made a mess and really needed to be cleaned, so I put a small bowl of soapy water in to boil. I have cleaned microwaves this way for years, you let it boil and it loosens the grime and you just wipe it out. But this time when it started to boil, it sort of exploded.
The door blew open and soapy water went everywhere in the kitchen. (Well, the floor is clean now at least). This morning when I went to heat up water for instant coffee, I hit the start button and blew the circuit breaker. Several times. It seems the water went into the "brains" too and shorted it out. I absolutely rely on my microwave for everything, So, new microwave time!
This one was only 3 years old. The previous one was damaged during my move. I told my son I would never make it thru Best Buy, and I don't have the scooter charged yet, os he said he would go there and get me one since I couldn't walk thru the store or carry a new one in.
The broken one was a Panasonic, 1000 watts and about 1 cubic foot. It cost around $130 in 2002.
The "wet" one was a Panasonic, 1300 watts and about 1.5 cubic foot. It cost around $90 in 2005. See,, bigger, better and cheaper! That is what I sent him to get.
Now, with any other appliance, 3 years would have meant bigger and better, right? Not so here. I couldn't even find a 1300 watt online, and the only ones that large in cubic feet were considered full size and were upwards of $180.
I ended up with a Frigidaire, 1.4 cubic foot, 1100 watt for around $115.
(just what I needed to spend after the costs involved with the van).
So, what happened? Why did they go backwards?????
Well, while he was here he put my van plates on, and did a couple other things for me,so that was nice at least.
He picked up for me a couple month's supply of cat litter-$20.
Van purchase-$lots
Tax and license-$mucho dinero
Grocery shopping I had been putting for for several weeks to avoid the holiday rush- $130
Neighbor kid bribed to carry in month's supply of groceries-$5
Now microwave-$120 with tax.
Anyone know a single millionaire?
