4 pounds of TROUBLE

OK, let me start this off by saying I absolutely love Simon. His purr is infectious and goes constantly. He loves to be held, and spends lots of time wanting me to hold him. He sits at my feet, or on the chair next to me and meows until I pick him up. If I don’t respond immediately, he just climbs into my arms himself and settles down. He loves being kissed on his head, and holds his head up so I can.

Now, that said, this is to all those addicts who urged me to adopt him.

He adores Maxie. He follows him around, and more often than not wants to wrestle. Even when Maxie is using the litter box. I have covered ones, and the cats like to face out. Simon sits on top and bats at his favorite while he is “busyâ€Â. And when Max scratches the litter to finish, Oh what a fun game. Why Maxie doesn’t knock him across the room I will never know.

Maxie also loves to sit on the edge of the bathtub while I soak. Last night, it was cold in there, so I drew the shower curtain to keep in the heat. Maxie was inside it with me. Simon, with unerring accuracy, jumped up and attacked the bulge which was Max, knocking him into the tub. He has knocked books in the tub, too, when I lay them on the edge for a minute.

Scooter has a touchy stomach, and made a mess in my room. I took a roll of paper towels in there for the clean up, and forgot to take them back with me. Guess who found them, unrolled them and ripped them to shreds all over my bedroom floor?

The other night he confiscated Scooter’s favorite toy, a plastic wand with a cloth strip attached to the end, a cat “fishing poleâ€Â. He pulled around and around the couch and into the kitchen for a long time, growling the whole time. Scoots and Max just watched him. Then when he finally dropped it, Scooter ran over quick as lightning and lay down on it, lengthwise, covering up the whole thing. “ Mineâ€Â, he said. Simon is likewise unwilling to share his red spider. He will get under the dining room table and do somersaults over the chair rungs chasing the thing. Growling the whole time, even tho the big guys are nowhere near. They sat back watching with me and asking why we have him.

I inherited from my mother one of her favorite things from the 70s. A wooden bowl full of wooden fruit. (It's called monkey pod, anyone remember them?) They sit in a bowl on my dining room table. Simon has decided they are his. He is digging them out one at a time and chasing them all over the floor. I already have one I can't find. 2000 toys, and he picks on my stuff! Needless to say it is very noisy while he is doing that.

The cats have a feeder which holds several days worth of food, Works on gravity feed. Well, for some reason, he didn’t like the food on top, so he sat there last night and dug and dug until he had most of the food all over the tray it sits on. I don’t know if he found what he was looking for or not. I have tried to convince him prizes come in cereal boxes, not cat feeders. I had to put it back at least twice.

Lastly, I had chicken for dinner last night. After I defrosted it, I took it out of the styrofoam container it comes in from the store. You know the paper they put under the meat? I always put the tray in the sink to rinse before I put it in the trash. You know who got up in the sink and tore off a small piece of the paper and tried to eat it. I tried to get it away from. Picture this, older handicapped woman chasing 4 month old kitten all over the house. He won, I think he ate the paper. Now I am worried to death it will clog in this intestines and mean surgery. I fed him olive oil afterward to help it slide. He seems to be Ok today, and is up to no good again. I keep checking his stomach for lumps, but he is fine. Mama is not.

Yes, my life is a whole lot livelier now. And you guys are to blame, you know who you are.

Thanks! :kitten

Here's some photos. His mouth is open a lot, he talks quite a bit. He also looks a little demented in one, it is just kitten eyes trying to focus. enjoy.

Now Connie don't you realize how bored you would have been without Simon. You have to admit he sure has to put a smile on your face. I know your stories of him cheer me up. Come on honestly you wouldn't trade him for anything now.

Is this 'the terrible twos' in cat talk? How sweet! Is he your diet plan?

Liz-diet plan? Dirty words! but if he had his way, he would eat my dinner and I could go do something else.

Gram-Yes, I am happy to have him. He makes life interesting.

Mary Ann, welcome back!

Connie - I'm still aboard Volendam. We disembark in the morning. :( A snail is a speed-demon compared to this *$&# Sea Mobile who has the service on most ships now...

I fondly recall those crazy days of kittenhood. Remember, he's just a kitten. He will slow down and become like your other two in time. The challenge for you is to survive until he grows up a little. His troublemaker stories crack me up! What a little demon!

I have loved reading about Simon from the start and often think what a great children's story it would be with your pictures of course. Thanks so much and please continue to give us such joyous moments reading about you all.

My Dino had crossed eyes his whole life. The vet said he should have grown out of it as a kitten but never did. I later learned that crossed eyes is a trait of the Siamese.

I wish you could send some of Simon's energy to me. It sounds like he has plenty to spare!
