On a seven day cruise......when are the formal nights?

Also, I have never been to the Captain's dinner (after four cruises!) Is it worth going?

Typically the second night is formal. The first and last nights are never formal. Also, it is unlikely that the third night would be formal if the second night was formal. So, that means that typically the second and forth, fifth or sixth night is formal.

On the 7-day Conquest itenerary the Tuesday and Thursday nights were formal (Sunday through Sunday cruise days).

I requested a seat at the Captain's table on my first cruise and didn't get one. I didn't bother on the second. I don't know what, if any, the criteria is. Our table was above the Captain's table this past cruise, and the two dinners we observed appeared to have well-to-do, older (60s +) people both nights. Of course, he had dinner the other nights but in different dining rooms. Of the 12 seats at the table, half of them were taken up by crew members. If I had any say in it, I would have a maximum of one of the ship's officers seated at a dining table, thus enabling the opportunity for many passengers to be engaged in conversation with the ship's crewmembers at some point during the cruise. Even then, your chances of dining with one of the ship's officers would be slim on a ship the size of the Conquest.

The Captain's party is actually a place where you get free drinks and appetizers, visit with your friends, some folks dance, and whether it's worth attending or not depends on your personal tastes. Some people go every time just for the free drinks, my husband and I go to dance together, but after several, we might not go every cruise.

The formal nights vary from ship to ship and itinerary to itinerary just because of the ports. So, check with someone who has recently cruised the same ship and itinerary that you're booked to sail in order to know the formal nights for certain.

Happy sailing!

Linda - It's hard to believe that in four cruises, you've skipped the Captain's Dinner each time! If you want lobster, that's the only night it's offered on Carnival cruises. So, your question as to "is it worth it?"....depends on whether you enjoy dressing up for a gala occasion, and having fun and complimentary hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, and a wonderful lobster/prime rib dinner! LOL

jleg - On ALL Carnival cruises, the second night on board IS formal night.

We are getting ready to go on Carnival Victory for a 7-day cruise 12-25-05 to 1-1-06 we were wondering what they had for a 13 year old to do on it? And, how do they accomodate someone in a wheelchair at the main dinning room?

There are a lot of thing for 13 year olds on the Victory. Teens usually have thier own place to hang out. This is from a review of the Victory ...

Those ages 2-5 stay in the daycare facility, but older groups (6-8, 9-11, and 12-15) engage in age-appropriate games, karaoke, and disco parties throughout the ship. Older kids swarm the waterslide and video arcade; parents with younger ones appreciate the beepers (free) and morning babysitting on port days.

And this from the Carnival web site ...

Camp Carnival makes sure teens have lots of social events with kids their own ages, like dances, talent contests and sports tournaments.

Carnival even has a special shore excursion program designed just for teens. Now your 12- to 14-year-olds can choose from a selection of Camp Carnival recommended tours; they can go as a group to explore many of our exciting destinations with a Camp Carnival chaperone.

If your teen loves to dance, we have great news for them. Every night aboard a Carnival cruise our 12- to 14-year-old guests will have the opportunity to "mix and mingle" at our shipboard dance club from 9:30pm to 10:45pm. After 11:00pm, teens 14 and under can join the youth staff for a variety of activities, such as a late night movie, karaoke or outdoor games.

Other activities for teens include:

* Playstation 2 and IMac time
* Board games
* Talent show
* Trivia games
* Dance parties
* ExerSeas - Competitive indoor/outdoor games
* Ping-Pong tournaments
* Karaoke

Activities for Teens

Teens must be registered with Camp Carnival in order to participate in the activities, but it's up to them how many -- or how few -- they choose to attend. Camp Carnival's friendly and experienced youth staff want to enhance your teen's vacation experience. This is why they've tailored activities specifically designed to entertain this age group.

Don't forget to check out the teen forum on this board. Here is a link ...

We are getting ready to go on our first cruise. It is on Carnival Victory on 12-25-05 to 1-1-06, and I was wondering how well is the main dinning room handicap accessible?

I was wondering how formal the main dinning room is on the Carnival Victory. Is it tux's and evening gowns or can you wear a nice suit and a nice pant suit or dress?

A nice suit and a nice dress is fine. Some others may not even reach that level.

We sailed with my mom who is in a wheel chair. We had afabulous table.. the waiter took away the chair that was there and she just rolled her chair to the table.
There are two floors for the dining room both are accessible. Do youhave a cabin that is accessible? And did you call the special care people at carnival to let them know about your chair?

If not you could get a table all the way to the back of the dining room. I liked that we were close the the front and did not have to manuver her chair through the tables/people

Thank you for the information. Yes we have talked to the special care people to let them know about the wheelchair. We have went through a travel agent and she has called them numerous times.

I do have another question. How did the airport handle your mom's wheelchair? I have went with the air that Carnival sets up for us and they have said that we might be on a small jet that might not have a jet way from the terminal to the jet and I cannot walk it.

Don't think Carnival does the Captain's TABLE (where a few are invited to eat at the SAME table with the captain) any more. (Naturally, there's still the Captain's DINNER.)

Because I know that they will have to go ahead and pack my wheelchair on the plane. So I am wanting to know how I am supposed to get to the plane and on.

Usually with a wheel chair we wheeled my mom to the gate.. and they took the chair from there and put it in under. Its one of the first pieces out so she can get away from the plane.

Hopefully you let the agent know-- who told you to call special services with carnival. If this plane is one that stays on a runway--there will be steps up to get into the plane.

I have another question to this. What if I can't walk onto the plane (up the steps) what will they do?
