I can't decide between rum point and 7 mile beach for when we arrive in GC. Any suggestions?

If you have been to 7 mile is there a good spot to go where it's not to busy and there is good food and drink nearby?

I cant't give you 1st hand into on Rum Point, but 7 mile beach is my favorite beach in the Caribbean. I know everyone is bias toward one or another but 7 mile is great. The hotels on 7 mile are pretty protective of their beach property, to the point of being a little snooty. I can understand their main concern is their guests so they frown on cruisers desending on them.

Anyway, Sea Grape Beach is my favorite. It has chairs and umbrellas for rent, lockers, showers, a bar/cafe with decent food and drinks. Within a few feet you can rent any water toy you want. Para-sailing, jet skiis, floats, banana boats, rental boats, you name it and it's there.

The staff is very professional. Within easy walking distance is the Courtyard by Marriott, with good restartants. When you wade into the water it's nice and smooth with few shells and rocks. I would recommend aqua socks anyway, never know if anyone might discard a beer bottle while swimming.

If I can remember it's $4 by cab one way, and what's nice there's a cab pickup point right there, so no worry about getting back to the ship.

Taking into account all factors, I'd give Sea Grape a solid 9 out of 10.

Let me know if I can help further.

I lived on Grand Cayman for 5 months (this was 14 years ago however). IMHO, I would recommend Rum Point. While 7Mile beach is AWESOME, I always found Rum Point quieter and just as beautiful, depends on whether or not your looking for action, or a nice quiet place to hang out for awhile. Also, on your way there, you get a mini tour of part of the island. Again, not sure what it's like now, hopefully it hasn't changed a whole lot. Nothing like swinging in a 2-3 person hammock listening to Soca music sipping on a cool bevy,...don't forget to get back on the ship ... :)

Getting to Rum Point will be costly- make sure your cab driver will come back for you.
(unless you rent a car-- I would do 7 mile beach
