a bite to eat in Cayman?

OK, so I've booked the excursion with Captain Marvin which brings us back around 1:15 - 1:30. We will only have a couple of hours before we have to be back on our ship and we have to get some souvenir shopping in but I think we might want to grab a quick bite to eat. I'm looking for some quick stop recommendations that are within walking distance of the pier.

Thanks

There's a hard rock cafe right on the corner by the pier. Unfortunately, we had a rain storm while in the Caymans last August and had to hurry back to the ship. Beautiful clean island.

On our last visit to Grand Cayman, over Christmas 2004, we went with Captain Marvin on the exact trip you mention and ate upon our return. We found a nice bar/restaurant jutting out into the ocean about 2 or 3 blocks to the right of the tender pier. The restaurant has a nice patio over the ocean with umbrellas. Captain Marvin is 5 or 6 blocks to the left and it is a nice walk to see shops back to the tender pier and then another 2 or 3 to the restaurant. Sorry, i don't remember the name, but I do recommend the turtle burger and conch fritters, and of course the island drinks. Also, a well hidden but atreasure is the Cayman museum across from the pier and a bit to the left. The gift shop has very nicely priced original and numbered art, if interested.

Enjoy the trip and the stingrays are wonderful. Bring lots of film. The video is very well done and exceptionally clear, albeit expensive.

Thanks for the tips. Hal, I will definately be stopping in the gift shop of the museum--a piece of artwork is always my souvenir choice when we travel. I probably couldn't have convinced our group to stop there if we just stumbled upon it but now that I have a recommendation:)

We purchased both original watercolor bookmarks and larger water color scenes of the island. We, like you, always bring back art from our travels and now after these many years have quite the collection. What is nice about an art souvenier is that everytime you look at the wall you are reminded of a very pleasant memory. we also have started collecting posters from our travels and have those framed as well. Have fun in GC.

There is a small pub with outside seating just to the right of the docks-think it is called Crows Nest (or might be Paradise)-great place-and great island music. Not sure if it sustained damage from the hurricane or not. Go to a website and check out all the food establishments-it will tell you what is open for biz... www.caymanrestaurants.com

Another place we went to last time was Hammerheads Brew Pub-this is also right on the water with outside seating. This however is to the left of the docks and down just a small walk. Great place!!!

When we go again on March 5th- we got a suggestion from my good friend at Nativeway Tours to try Rackhams Pub- this is also right on the water supposed to have fabulous food!!!

One more suggestion to you....if you drink beer-you must order Stingray Beer-local brewery-good stuff. Think they have 3 styles. Not sure if the brewery is up and running yet- when we were there this past November-the brewery got hit pretty good by the hurricane-but it was under repair.
Check it out and enjoy.
Hope my experiences help you out!!!!

Most places are open again. Hard Rock, just right from the tender pier, reopened on Feb 5th.
