A few questions

My DH and I are planning our spring cruise and are trying to decide between Princess and RCCL. We have been on 4 cruises so far with RCCL and love it, but thought maybe a change would do us good.

Can anyone tell us how RCCL compares with Princess and/or Celebrity (taken 1 cruise with them and thought it was awesome)?

How does the food compare?

Can anyone tell me if you are able to buy alcohol in the duty free shop on board and take it back to your cabin? Loved being able to do this on our RCCL cruises!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I can tell you that on the cruises I have been on, if you buy alcohol in the duty free shop- they don't let you have it until the cruise is over!!

I have only sailed Princess so far, but have my first RCI cruise coming up later this year. So I can not help you with comparisons (personally speaking) just yet. From what Ive read, Princess and RCI are pretty comparable. As for the food, you get both positive and negative remarks for both lines. That is just one of those subjective topics. I have read repeatedly though that Celbrity's food is better than the others. Like you, I have been quite pleased with all the cruises I have taken with one line, but am now wanting to branch out and try another (want to try them all actually!!). Im not sure which ships and itineraries you are looking at, but go with whichever line provides the ports and ship you like best. I think the rest will be pretty similar. Good luck with your decision.

This reply will probably drive the cruise lines crazy, but in general, they are all pretty similar. That's because as soon as one line thinks up a way to differentiate itself from the competition, the rest jump in. So everyone has a "Cruisers Club," and everyone has a spa, and everyone has theme nights. The differences tend to be more subtle. For example, I have found Holland America to be wonderful, but a tad stiff and formal, while Princess, Celebrity, and RCCL seem able to combine the right mix of formality and open-hearted friendliness. Carnival is also nice but a bit too "rah rah" for my taste. But that's just my opinion and I'm sure other posters will both agree and disagree with it.

We've done about 17 cruises and make our selection based on itinerary and price. We haven't yet reached the stage where the ship alone is the draw and maybe we never will. The good news is that all this striving for customer service by the lines means that you can experiment without worrying too much about it. Try not to fall into the comparison trap. It's hard to overcome loyalty to your first ship, but all ships will have a plus and minus column. So go. Explore. Try new ships and new ports.
