MSC Cruises has introduced Portofino, a prestigious port of call, to its 2008 programme. The first ship to call here will be MSC Rhapsody and every Saturday from now until 18 October 2008, MSC Rhapsody will depart from Genoa at 16:00 and in two hours reach Portofino. Using a launch system, passengers will be able to visit this international jet-set spot, walking along traditional alleys lined with luxury boutiques and offering panoramic views. MSC Rhapsody will then call into Leghorn (Livorno), where, among the excursions, there will be a visit to Florence. It will then call into Salerno before sailing to Taormina with its archaeological site, then Malta (La Valletta), Tunisia and back to Italy to the port of Olbia.
After the first call during the Easter period, MSC Cruises will officially inaugurate the new port of call on 29 March with an event involving the Naval Command and the local authorities with a Crest Exchange Ceremony.
"MSC Rhapsody calling into Portofino is the result of our collaboration with local authorities," said Pierfrancesco Vago CEO of MSC Cruises. "We are delighted with our new and exclusive itinerary. This has been made possible thanks to the unique features of MSC Rhapsody, a small-scale, intimate liner that offers our passengers a high level of comfort and excellent service and the privilege of visiting unique and distinct ports of call such as Portofino, a resort that is known throughout the world as the pearl of the Mediterranean and this at the right time, too: from March through to October - the most beautiful months of the year."
In total for 2008 MSC Cruises will call into Portofino 31 times, bringing 25,000 guests.
