a little cash for Greenland, Iceland, Norway

I know I've probably asked this in some form or another already.... but we're doing a couple of cruises soon that will involve Greenland, Iceland and Norway. I know that our VISA card will be accepted in many places, but thought I should take small amounts of cash for either very small purchases or whatever other scenario might come up that the card isn't the best option. For those who have been to these places, some of them very small "towns", did you take the individual krones for each country? I was thinking of taking maybe the equivalent of $100 USD for each. Thoughts or advice appreciated. Thanks.

Went to my local CHASE branch today and did decide to order the equivalent of $100 USD in each of the currencies, with small to medium-sized bills requested. Should help us make very small purchases that might not seem suitable for a credit card.

Been there..used credit cards. and never found it a problem.

The only thing that counts is your comfort level. Plus it is always interesting to see the different coinage.
one tip, Take some of those small snack bags..the resealable ones..
and write down the different countries on them. That way they are separated and easy to identify.

you are going to some of our favorite places.
In Norway, see if you can go to Pulpit Rock.. near Stavenger.

if you saw to. Cruise fighting on a huge rock overhang.. that was Pulpits Rock. Look it up online.

a funny story.. the first time we went there, I wanted to hike to the top.. Einstein said “ no way”. He showed me the many photos of it, people sitting with legs dangling over a rock filled with cracks.
so we did the boat tour that pulls up right at the base…
as we sat there, looking straight up at this hugh rock towering above us.. he said that standing up on it was so dangerous. What if one of those cracks gave way.

I replied.. and if it did.. it will be heading straight down..right where we are..in a very small boat….

Good to know that credit cards were no problem. I was thinking the local craftsperson in tiny Djupivogur, or wherever, might not want a c.c. for their handmade Christmas ornament or whatever. We'll be prepared either way. Good tip on keeping the money organized too, so thanks.

Got the paper currency today. Yes, I've always been intrigued by designs on bills and coins -- foreign or US, but foreign bills seem much more beautiful and interesting than ours in the US.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be near Norway's Pulpit Rock, but it looks spectacular and I agree that I wouldn't want to be on it or below it !!

I have ended up with coins from all over, including an old Chinese coin that I cherish.
and I share your thoughts on foreign currency. Most of it are works of art.

No matter what you do and see, you will have a great trip.
