A question for those with a cat and a dog...

Due to a fire at her condo, my daughter has temporarily "loaned" us her cat.

Don't get me wrong, we love the little "angel", but we are having a problem.

He's about a year old, and has put himself in charge of the entire house. Everyone must do as he "says" or there is he11 to pay.

The big problem is he has learned that he can be "boss" over our very large dog.

Poor Charlie (the dog) gets batted, slapped, etc.,every time he happens to look at the cat.

Now Cat has decided he is the keeper of the door. So when Charlie wants to go outside, he has to get passed the little "slapper" to get out.

We have thought about getting the all purpose duct tape out, and taping the little angels limbs together, but I'm sure he'd get back at us in some way while we were sleeping...

What do we do??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I hear your wowes Reggae. When DD and SIL moved in with us a few years ago when the moved back from OH they had 3 three cats in tow and your little Angel sounds like their "Fatty". He did not like Buck and Buck didn't know what he did wrong, LOL. Eventually they got use to each other but in the meantime, I'd get a spray bottle with only water in it and when you go to let the dog out, if the cat acts up at the dog, give the cat a spray of water. Do this anytime the cat is "bad" and it should break him of it.

Sounds like a plan...I will give it a try today.

But, this little angel has a real good memory. And paybacks are......

Madison was a outside dog so she did not come in very often so we did not have that much of a problem. We are hoping to get a dog when we come back from vacation in March after the cruise so I will keep that in mind for Molly thinks she owns the house and she just lets us live here has dh always says

So here is a picture of the little "angel" when a while back. He's bigger now, and like Audrey said...he's just letting us live here.

I agree with the water but when you described what is going on I almost fell of my chair laughing. The cat looks mischievious.

Our male cat also rules the roost but he is a gentle soul. He still slaps the dogs around but never uses the claws. The dogs do their best to get around him, especially when he lays directly in his path. Too bad you can't get this on video and submit to Funniest Home Videos.

Good luck,

Karin

Karin, sounds like you have the same situation at your house :)

Our old dog is the same way, wouldn't hurt a flea...

But if he makes eye contact with the cat, its POW, POW, POW, right jabs from the cat, thinks he's Muhammad Ali...

I think the water spray is a good thing! Keep several around, or carry one with you.

We have 4 cats, and in late January brought home a new puppy. (The cats are used to dogs, our rottie died in July from bone cancer.) Kiefer is now 11 months old and loves the cats, and they tolerate him very well. The only time they give him the business is when Kiefer tries to wrestle with them like he wrestles with his BFF Monty, a HUGE mastiff. Then we'll suddenly hear a high pitched YIP! and Kiefer slinks off, only to try a few minutes later.

We have 4 cats and 1 dog, and there are times the cats let the dog think they're in charge, but sooner or later the dog reminds them all that she's MUCH BIGGER AND STRONGER and straightens out the situation.

I'm sure that the cat who slaps the dog will one day have to deal with a dog that has decided that "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" :D

:)P) That is probably how the expression 'Cat o'Nine tails' started....
someone's cat had a run-in with a big dog. {sorry bad joke}.
I use the water spray bottle when I babysit SIL's siamese. For me it's
a must. I have Tiels in their room. I use a wooden frame across the door
to stop the dogs getting near them. But the dear little cat likes to
perch on top of it and drool over the birds.
Even took the wallpaper off and just painted the walls....not as messy.

BTW that cat looks like it might be a devil.=COOL

Wow - the cat looks like our new kitty - Boots! She is a handful too. DH says she's psycho, and I'm beginning to believe it. :)

Maxie rules our home with a velvet paw. My BFF Aneedacruise brought her puppy over for a visit. Now, Maxie is bigger than the puppy. It was wild time. But by the end of the weekend, they were playing together, according to Max's rules.

My first cat Sugar thought my German Shepherd was her father. She had a litter of kittens, and everytime one was born, she would get up and rub her Jaw on Ranger. Ranger just watched the whole thing fascinated. All the kittens loved him, too.

We once had 2 cats when we brought home a bunny. Now the cats loved that bunny and we often found them snuggling together napping, arms wrapped around each other and every one looked so content. I found out just how much one of the cats REALLY liked her, when one day we watched that silly cat mount that bunny and hump away.It was sooo funny, first he jumped up on her back and nibbled at the back of her neck, then had to scoot waay back to try to hump her. Obviously it was unsuccesful, but they both seemed to enjoy the closeness LOL The cat seemed happy, and the bunny just ignored him eventually and hopped away. What a hoot that was. The girls kept saying, Mommy why is the kitty riding on the back of the bunny? Oh, they are just playing horsey and bunny is giving kitty a ride.!:couple

We had a HUGE French Lop bunny. You should have seen her when my Siamese queen came into heat. That rabbit jumped up and down in the middle of the room in a frenzy!! My stud cat loved the bunny and would crawl into her cage. Had to give her back to the breeder when she got older, she turned mean. Did you know rabbits growl? This one did! And she hated us. l

We have 2 cats & 2 dogs (DH works around local shelter & has a soft heart); when we brought home the last cat it took about a wk for everyone to get adjusted to each other. Now there are times when they actually curl up next to each other to sleep. This last cat is very feisty by nature & although we've had her for over 2 yrs she still gets pretty wild around here & creates quite a bit of entertainment for us.
