AB v. AD minisuite on Grand Princess?

I would appreciate any information comparing the AB minisuites on the Dolphin deck to an AD minisuite farthest aft on the Emerald deck on the Grand Princess. I heard that the AD minisuites have covered balconies. Has anyone had any problems with open balconies on the Dolphin deck? Also, is there more noise or motion in an AD minisuite? Thanks for your help.

We have had two minisuites on Grand Class ships (the Star), both on Dolphin with exposed balconies---one AB (starboard) and one AA (port) with no problems. We loved looking straight out at the water rather than down on someone's balcony! We did not stay in an aft minisuite on the Grand Class ships (we were upgraded from AD to AB) but had an aft minisuite on the Dawn and there was vibration, although not a problem for us. It's all good! See our past reviews of the Star (posted one today, one last year). Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I think I probably will stick with the Dolphin minisuite.

There definitely is more motion and vibration in the AD's then the others. We were in E729 (category AD) with the extended balcony and we were surprised on how much noise, motion and vibration we had to put up with. Now, agreed, they are the only completely covered mini's on the Grand Class ships, but unless you need a covered balcony, I might look into one of the other categories if you are looking for a smoother cruise. Best of Luck!

It sounds like there is a good bit of noise, vibration, and motion in the ADs. Has anyone had any problems concerning wind on an AD balcony or the loss of privacy on an AB balcony?

Last year, I had an AA right at center ship. To me, there was no loss of privacy. In fact, 9 times out of 10, we'd look up and there would be nobody at the rails of there balconies. There might have been people on the balconies, but no one standing near the rail to look out or down. We never had anything fall on our balcony from another deck, either. We will again be in AA, only two cabins away from the one last year, this June. We are looking forward to it!

We ran into some 'no so nice' weather last month and we barely used the balcony on E729 the first couple of days. It would have sucked a book right out of our hands! No exageration, it really was that bad. But once the weather cleared up it was much nicer out there. But remember, this was the AD that was the farthest back and only had protection of a balcony wall on one side, and I think that made a lot of difference. I don't think the other AD's had as much of a problem with it.
