Mom is worried about what to do with her shoes once we have walked through the forest, and get to the river to 'float' , so if someone would be kind enough to tell me, so I can tell her, what to do with the shoes, I appreciate it.. she's been bugging me.

Went on the Cave Tubing in June. Had a blast. As for the shoes it is recommended to wear water shoes. However, I have soft feet and keep on my tennis shoes which I did wear in the water. I had a second pair of shoes in my backpack on the bus and placed my wet shoes in a plastic bag for the trip back to the ship. Have a great time.

Our family each took a pair of old tennis shoes and wore them on the cave tubing. At the end of the tour, we went back to our bus and got bags we had brought along that had a change of clothes in them. We changed into the dry clothes which included sandals for everyone, and left our old tennis shoes there in the garbage of the changing room. Beware, there may be fire ants along the trail to the caves, and open-toed shoes are NOT recommended (the fire ants bit two ladies in our group who had worn sandals).

Can you book independent of Carnival for this one & save $?

Also, the description says you have to tote your own stuff & walk 45 mins...this isn't like backcountry hiking with a 50 lb pack, is it?

We booked our cave tubing with Reggie at www.regtours.com and saved about $25 or $30 per person (can't remember exact amount, just know it was a good bit for the four of us in our family). Reggie was GREAT and very professional. I've previously written detailed descriptions of the excursions on this board and www.cruisecritic.com (go to some of the previous pages for entries about Belize and cave tubing).

The walk is about 30 minutes along a relatively level path through some trees. You will be caring an inner tube, upon which you'll float down the river when you get to the caves. On our excursion with Reggie, we had people from 9 to early 60's and it is not a strenuous walk. You won't want to take much with you, because whatever you do take WILL GET WET. After your tubing, you'll walk back, carrying your inner tube, and be able to towel off and change into dry clothes (which hopefully you left in Reggie's van), as there is a small bathroom/changing area.

Others on these boards have also had very good experiences with XTREME tubing or adventures. However, I can't speak for them. Just know Reggie provided us with a quality, safe and professional excursion.

We too did Cave tubing with Reggie @ $65 per person which did not include lunch. Ship tour often inc. a lunch break. Wear old canvas sneakers or cheap Teva style sandals. Water or aqua shoes do not provide enough support for the 30-45 minute trek through the jungle. I kept gum in my mouth for moisture and only carried a waterproof disposable camera which had the rubber wrist band. You will carry your black inner tube and wear your miner style head lamp. We were able to leave our Bags with change of clothes on the bus and Reggie provided ice water upon our return. This is a fun trip and a great way to spend the day at Belize.
