Activities for 20 year old

Hi-

Wow, it's been a couple of years since I've been on - so excited to have another cruise to plan (crossed fingers)!

We're thinking of taking our 20 year old son on the Explorer of the Seas in May when he gets home from college. I've heard RC is good for college age - but it seems like the organized activities would be too young or too old for him. He's eager to go on a cruise even if it means internet withdrawal - but are there any activities geared to his age group? He doesn't mind being with us but better if he can hang with other college kids.

Thanks!

In all honesty... not really. There are specialty activities for kids aged 17 and younger, but after that a 20 year old will enjoy the same activities that 60 year old would. Now don't get me wrong, there is still lots to do, everything from lounging around on pool days, to a rock climbing wall, basketball court, and ice skating rink, and then there's trivia, a casino, a gym, nightly parties along the promenade. There's even a club onboard if he wants to try and meet others his age. I will be going on the Explorer in May and I am 21. To me cruising is the best experience ever just because I like the relaxation and pampering aspect of it. But everyone is different and on a ship like the Explorer of the Seas your son will be sure to find something to do.

TABBYMOM...........I think you've been away from your Son just a few days too many to ask what a 20 year old college student would do on a cruise!! Made me laugh out loud!! Just the being away from books and teachers and having to get up for class would be enough to keep that kid happy for a week. I'm sure you won't have to worry about him............and most likely won't see much of him on the ship either unless you're in the pool or in a deck chaise all day!! He'll find enough things to keep him busy. JUST REMEMBER TO GIVE HIM SOME SPACE AND LET HIM REST!! :wave

We just returned from a cruise with our 20 year old. She really stuck with the family for the daytime, but evenings she went to the dances, etc., that are geared to adults. She got carded to be sure she was 18, and advised not to try to purchase alcohol. Otherwise she had the same options for entertainment and dancing, etc., as any other adult. As it was Feb. and other college students were not on break there weren't a lot of people near her age--it was highschoolers or young couples. She still had fun.

Thanks for the input - I know he'll have a nice relaxing time. It was good to hear that it's possible for a 20 year old to have fun even without many peers around. Hopefully there will be a few young adults!

Also most of the activities staff are in their 20s, so if you go to say the 80s dance unescorted, they are circulating and chatting up passengers and dancing a few turns with them, same at other activities. The staff was fantastic at seeing people "alone" and getting them mixed with others (NOT matchmaking, just social grouping a bit).

Spoheating, that is great news - I wish there was a staff like that in his everyday life! He's not so great at breaking the ice but once it's broken he can take it from there. I sent him a link to the cruise and he says "That looks so incredibly awesome I cannot encourage you enough to proceed." I think he likes the idea. :)D

Oh that's a nice 5 dayer to Bermuda you are going on. I'm going on a 9 dayer to the Caribbean. Be sure to keep the ship clean and in one piece for me! ;)

We are a very well behaved family! No smokers, son doesn't drink, clean up after ourselves, dress nicely for dinner, don't hold a row of seats in the theater....

I'm a family of one (myself) and I do smoke and drink........but I clean up after myself and don't save seats (who the heck would I save them for!)........so does that make me well behaved? :)D

As long as you don't tear the Voyager of the Seas to bits and pieces, you are well behaved in my book, Nitestar. Just don't go anywhere near the Explorer! ;)
