Adventure OS Discounts to Puerto Rican Locals???

I've heard horror stories of passengers on the Adventure of the Seas, departing year-round from Puerto Rico. Apparantly the cruise line offers major discounts to the locals, which many people claim dilute the cruise experience.

Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

It's no different than the huge discounts they give to Florida residents or Texas residents. So, yes, they do get great discounts.

I did the Adventure this past summer and loved it. Yes, there are many locals on but we had no issues at all.

I'm still looking for those Florida Resident rates too! LOL I finally got them on one of my upcoming trip on the Sovereign. First time in 28 cruises with RCI.

Well, a friend of mine who lives in Ft. Lauderdale just got a $169 rate for 4 nights on Carnival Imagination. He just came off a 5 nighter on Enchantment of the Seas which he got for a song.

He books at the last minute, he's on the e-mail list for last minute bookings.

It is not true that "locals" get huge discounts on AOS. I paid $1,200 pp for a balcony for my honeymoon on LOW SEASON 3 yrs ago, my mother paid $1800 for an inside ($900pp) on the SOS 2 yrs ago. Just this morning a coworker was looking up prices for the AOS for this spring and it was also $900pp for an inside. Note that this prices were the same that EXPEDIA, RCI and other travel related websites were offering. What happens is that cruising is a great holiday alternative for a lot of puertorican families because (as you may imagine) traveling abroad is much more expensive, since we have to take a plane to go practically everywhere! I wish I could have the alternative to drive to my vacation destiny. .

I, too, would loke to see the "huge Florida discounts".
Since we moved to Florida 10 years ago, we've never used a Florida discount. We have used some senior discounts and a couple happy hour rates.

I was on the AOS last March and there were alot of locals. It was our first cruise and am going again in 28 days. I also went on the Granduer out of New Orleans in Dec. which had a majority of Louisianians(hope that's the correct term). They were so friendly. It was a great cruise. I'm sure they got a deservedly good price, which was a great price for us. I wish they'd give a local incentive on the Empress going out of Philly this summer, I'll be on it for sure!

What I don't understand is why people don't expect a lot of "locals" on a ship that is based in PR?

I expect a lot of Americans on a ship based in Miami, I expect a lot of Canadians on a ship based in Vancouver, I expect a lot of people onboard from whatever country the ship happens to be sailing from regularly.

The other thing I have noticed is that it is only Americans commenting about the high rate of PRs on the ship. Why is that?

Not sure since Puerto Ricans are Americans............. This should be a case of distinguishing between locals and non locals.

Last week, I returned from my 2nd cruise on AOS and I'm hoping to sail on her again next spring. My husband and I, along with 2 other couples who are our friends, had wonderful tablemates who live in Puerto Rico. I don't know why anyone would object to "locals" being on AOS......The couple seated with us fit right in with our group and we're planning to visit with them the next time we are in PR. They've actually extended a gracious invitation for us to stay with them prior to the cruise so they can show us the "real" PR. The Cruise Director mentioned that we had people from over 30 countries on our sailing. I honestly don't know why the "locals" would be singled out as problem passengers.

It's great if someone can get a great cruise price. More power to them. We don' live near a cruise port and we have to take a plane to get to our ship, regardless of the departure port we select.

I watch all the emails that come from the on-line TA's and pay close attention. I like the great offers where you get air and cruise for a wonderful discount. Gotten great deals for the Med and Baltics by watching the rates very carefully and calling the TA's to match one price against the other. It has worked for me!

Hope everyone is successful in getting good cruise prices wave

Most of the large Travel Agencies in San Juan book all the interior cabins as they come open. Just saw this discussion on this on another board
