Have only been toCozumel. Took a taxi from the pier directly to Chankanaab. Its a wonderful park with snorkeling, restaurants, equipment rental and a botanic gardens with HUGE iguanas.Xcaret is south of Playa del Carmen which is about an hour south of Cancun. Not really close. The park is very modern with plenty of little coves for snorkeling, picnic tables under shade, an aquarium, Butterfly pavilion, Dolphin Cove, etc. Completely worth the admission.
