Advice while in Montego Bay

When in Montego Bay, I want to go right to Doctor's Cave Beach from the dock. After 4 hours, I would like to do some shopping without too much hassle, then stop by Margaritaville for an hour and then back to the dock. What is the best way to handle this safely for a family of 6 people?

There will be an abundance of cabs parked at the end of the pier. Take one of these to the beach. Skip the shopping unless you plan to do it in the duty free shops at the end of the pier. In town, you will be hasseled beyond belief by the locals. They do not know how to take no for an answer!

Sodey,

Just an FYI, Margaritaville is pretty close to Doctor's Cave Beach (a few blocks, if I remember correctly), so you may want to hit that before doing any shopping. Walking should be fine, but if you don't feel safe, like Cruzman said, cabs are in abundance - everywhere. They have some that are vans, so fitting all 6 should not be a huge problem. Also, if the traffic is as bad as it was when I was there a few years ago, give yourself a little bit extra time to get back to the boat - you wouldn't want to miss it!!

Have a great time!

Any idea how long it should take to get to Doctor's Beach from the dock? Do you know if they rent wave runners at the beach?

It's going to depend on traffic. Maybe 15-20 min. if traffic is good, another 10 min. if it's not. (??) They rent stuff at the beach there, but I can't remember what. We opted to lay out instead.

IMHO, I don't know why you'd want to go to Montego Bay. To me, it's just the gateway to Negril (because that's where the airport is). It's a 2 to 2-1/2 hour drive from Ochi to MoBay. Not worth it. I suggest that you just find another interesting excursion you can do from Ochi. I'm sure that you haven't done it all. There's a message board that has tons of people who post there that love Ochi and go there all the time. Not long ago, I saw a post asking what to do there for a day and they got lots of suggestions. Or ask your own question. They are more than happy to share advice. www.jamaicans.com
