I was thinking of getting an aft cabin with the l shaped balcony, does anyone know if they get more sunlight then the side cabins? I have health issues and don't want to have direct sunlight all of the time. thanks

Which ship are you referring to. Carnival has several classes of ships, and there are differences between the classes.
That said, in general, the rear balconies have less overhang and thus will get more sun than a side facing balcony.

Thanks for the advice...are the side balconies long enough to stretch your legs out when seated in the chairs? I have leg problems and need to stretch them when i sit.
I had an aft balcony on the Conquest. The good - balcony was so big you had plenty of room to sun with a lounge chair. Awesome view. The bad - the way the dividers are angled your neighbors are looking into your balcony area if they are standing. The most important is the smoot that is on your balcony floor every morning. They do clean it off during the day but going out to have coffee in the morning your feet will be black. I have decided it is better to just get a regular balcony for a lessor price.
