AFT CABINS

Why are aft cabins so popular. I lucked in and got one that was turned in by a TA and mine jumped on it for me at no cost for a Panama cruise next Oct on the Summit. Why does everyone out there like them so much, or are their people out there that do not like them?

cheers
Ron

Glad you asked Ron. My TA got us a corner aft cabin on the Infinity for our Alaska cruise. It seems that on one hand, the rocking motion would be stronger, but boy, the view on a scenic cruise will really compensate for that, don'tja think?

Interesting to see what cruisers in the know say...

We have just had an aft balcony once and that was this year on the Summit. :)
We had the middle cabin at the back , we loved it. The balconies are long and partly covered which gave us protection from the weather, especially any winds. We could see either side for a wonderful view. :)
We once had a cabin way up front of the ship and I had to get dressed for dinner VERY quickly each evening. ( Late seating )
The 'up and down' motion really made me feel dreadful. :puke
So I was a little concerned about feeling lots of motion in the aft too but I never felt a thing, it was wonderful :grin
We have booked an aft cabin for our 'scenic' cruise next year to Hawaii :)
On saying that being seasick has never spoiled any of my cruises as I just take the meds and all is well with the world :lol ( Thought I had better add that just incase any travelsick 'newbies' are put off! :grin )

Being aft REALLY depends on the ship you choose. Older & smaller ships you do not want to be aft. The noise & vibration from the engines / props can be a real hassle. You don't feel the motion quite as bad, but the vibration (esp as you enter & exit ports) is bad. We had an aft in Hollands (old) Wetsredam and hated it, the newer ships do offer great vantage points. Either way, a cruise is a cruise and you will love it. ENJOY! The Summit is wonderful.

So, the Infinity is rather new, I think and there should be a minimum of motion and noise on an aft cabin? Hope hope hope...

Don't worry, Glo-
With the azipod propulsion, there is virtually no noise or vibration, and due to the righting moment of the ship, the aft cabin motion is very minimal--not at all like the front of the ship. On the inside passage, there is very little rough water anyway, so it's almost a moot point. You are going to have a great time, and you have the "best seat in the house!" We've had a (very)forward cabin on the Mercury and both aft and midships on the Infinity. The only one where we felt any motion is in the forward one. No noticible difference in sea motion between the midships and aft cabin.
And Gunner-
The aft cabins are popular because they are larger, they have the largest balconies, and the view is so good. You really lucked out!

I could certainly feel engine vibration in the aft section of the Trellis Dining Room on Infinity. Apparently the vibration does not carry to the cabins, which are directly above the dining room.

Not sure if the Summit is the same class of ship as the Infinity, but if it is you better not be on Sky deck.
The noise from above is unbearable. Just returned from 2 weeks on Infinity aft cabins and have never heard so many people from midship to aft complain about the almost constant noise from above.

Pops, we are on the Panorama deck. We are between the two other floors with aft cabins. Between two sleeper floors, our TA said...

You shouldn't be bothered to much by the chair noise from the Oceanview bar and buffett area. I spoke to the people in the cabin below us on Panorama deck and they could still here the chair noise a little bit.
Have a great time!!!.

We were in an aft cabin on the Infinity this past July. It was a wonderfully large room and balcony. While the handicapped room was slightly large than the others, it was just great. The wide range of scenery was just great. It's an ideal room and we have it booked for our next four cruises.

Any engine noise or lots of motion aft on the Horizon? We have the last ouside cabin on Bermuda deck booked because it has access to the large deck.
