Age Group?

I am leaning towards picking Celebrity for our honeymoon in October and there is only one hesitation......whenever I bring up the Celebrity Century I get, "it's a nice ship but the average age is 50". Now I don't want to offend anyone but was just wondering if that was true or not. It won't really be a deal breaker but it would be nice if there were some other people in their late 30's early 40's to hang out with.

Any thoughts?

During Easter break our family, ages 35,38,14,11, Will be on the Century. I was on this ship a couple of summers ago with just myself and my wife and found we were about the average age and there were teenagers but not a large amount. Took the Kids on the Navigator last summer and found there was many more things for the kids to do but they are just as excited to be going on the Century. I will be able to do a few more things ($$) with the boys. When my wife and I went on Celebrity for our Anniversary we felt like it was our Honeymoon! The saff was great and the dinning extraordinary. They had special parties for Honeymooners and anniversaries that was nice....

Thanks. In terms of the sports bar there......is it a fun one? OK so I'm being optomistic here but we're shipping out on October 16...................say the Red Sox make it to the World Series this time after creaming the Yankees once and for all.........will the sports bar be a fun place for us to watch the game or will it be very subdued? Don't get me wrong...we aren't the type that tips cars over or anything..... I just don't want to get looked at the wrong way when I get excited over the winning homerun

I honestly did not spend much time there(note the honeymoon comment) so I don't think I could give you an honest answer.

We cruised on the Infinity during superbowl last yr and they had the game on in the night club lounge. I'm sure every ship at basball time will do the samesort of thing. ( But for the Red Sox.jeez they might go up river to stadium LOL. )

Remember that October is low season. You will have older passengers on all lines because of the time of year especially in the Caribbean.

Thats when we go on our cruises and I don't think we are old, at least not yet anyway :lol :lol it is hurricane season and the fares are lower, you will just not see a bunch of school age kids running around.

Hu Hu Hu Hurricane season??? I was not aware of that. I thought it ended in September. No wonder the penthouse concierge is only $700 pp!!! Should we buy extra dramamine?

DON'T LET THEM FOOL YOU!! All the information you have heard so far is subject to individual interpretation. We have gone on many October cruises and have found some of the best weather imaginable. The age of pax on the CENTURY can be from 10-90...it all depends who happens to be on at the time. Again, we have been on the Century in October and have found many "younger" pax (ages 25-45). the disco was always wailing and the dancing was fast. Don't sell the 40s-50s too short!! You can usually have a better time with some of them than you can with the 20s pax.

Whoever has been telling you about old agers on the CENTURY has been feeding you misinformation. Celebrity attracts a more refined and genteel type of pax but they really know how to dress and behave while having a great time. You will probably meet some of the most interesting pax on Celebrity.

We have cruised every year for over 10 years now during hurricane season and have NEVER had bad weather :thumb The ships sail around the bad weather, we have not even had rain! There have been cruisers who we not as lucky as us, but it is a great time to cruise, the weather is just right in the Caribbean. Hurricane season lasts until Nov. Remember the Princess ship was still priced higher as you stated in another post. Also hurricane season starts in June and that is when the prices actually start to go up. One of the reasons for lower prices that time of year is because the kids are back in school and families are not cruising and they need to fill the ship. Many people work their vacations around school schedules so they take their vacations during the summer or school breaks. But yes having Dramamine is not a bad idea either , just in case. That goes for any cruise, better safe than sorry :thumb I think from what I have read that you are looking for that the Century will be a good fit for you and your husband. But From the price you are saying the cabin is going for, it does not sound like a suite. You had mentioned you were looking into a suite on the Century and that price sounds like a regular outside cabin, or did I get confused? That doesn't take much for me these days :dizzy :lol

Thanks Laurie. It's not a suite. It's the concierge cabin on the penthouse level. It has a veranda and we get to embark and disembark in a separate line and all that. The suite was around $1250 but I couldn't see justifying that since it's just the two of us and since the concierge cabin seems to have some nice amenities.

I booked it this morning so I'm very happy. Thanks to all who helped me make the decision And I definitely am not into too many 20yr olds to hang out with. 30's to 50's is just find with me!!!

Now I just have to figure out how much $$ we'll spend on alcoholic beverages. I"m figuring on $500 for the two of us but we'll see.

I"m going on the Disney Wonder in April with my two daughters but quite honestly I think I'm more excited about this one!!!

You will enjoy your cabin, it is on the aft (back) of the ship and you will be looking at the wake :thumb you get a sitting area also, it's not big but it is a nice feature. That is a great price for that cabin also :jump have a great honeymoon and cruise :wave

I have a 10 year old girl and a five year old boy. We are going on the Celebrity Constellation in March. What kind of activities are there for the kids on the ship?

Your kids are in for a treat :thumb that class of ship really has a great childrens area. They have the shipmates fun factory, which is one nice playroom for your kids. Then there is always the pool. They do a lot of activities with them as well. I think you will enjoy this class of ships for a family cruise.

Just a general comment on age concerns. The first cruise my husband and I took was for our honeymoon and we were at first dismayed to see grey and white hair on the folks at our table at dinner. They tunred out to be wonderful dining and travel companions with lots of interesting things to talk about and we loved them! Here's what we have learned about cruisers. No matter what age, they all share common interests in travel, the sea, and learning about others. So it's not the age, but the attitude that matters. Don't let concerns about older (or younger for that matter) passengers get in the way of your enjoyment--I've snorkled with 90 year olds and 9 year olds and found both to be enjoyable travel buddies!
