We are not on the same ship. We will be on the Dawn same day out of Seattle. Hope you have a great time.
You might check the other sites to see if anyone will be cruising with you.

We've found about 20 others on various message boards who will be on our cruise. I don't know why there aren't any Cruise-Addicts aboard. We're going to have a great sailaway party!

Hi Potter,

Thanks for posting, but unfortunately we did this cruise last year, 2006. It was a great trip. Here's what we did in each port.

Ketchikan. We did a kayaking tour; booked it on our own, but the people who booked it from the ship got to kayak longer than we did.

Juneau. We split up; my husband and daughter did some river rafting, while my son and I did a Bike & Brew Tour. If you do the biking thing, be sure to pick your bike as soon as they deliver them--I hung back and ended up with a very small one whose seat would not adjust. Very uncomfortable on a 9 mile ride! Best parts were hearing my daughter holler, "Mom, Mom" as we passed the Mendenhall River, and the tasting at the Alaskan Brewery after the bike ride. Be sure to take time to go into the lobby and bar of the Alaskan Hotel; maybe you can do like we did and have an Alaskan with an Alaskan at the Alaskan.

Skagway. First we did the dog sled on wheels tour; great fun, and the kids REALLY enjoyed cuddling and hugging the puppies. We had also pre-reserved a car with Avis, so after an early lunch we picked it up and drove through part of British Columbia into the Yukon Territory, to Carcross and Emerald Lake. It was an absolutely beautiful drive, and we saw 6 bears by the side of the road. Great photo ops that day!

One word of warning, if you're booked, by chance, in cabin D-741, change it immediately. There is a terrible problem with that cabin--the kitchen grinder vent blows straight into its balcony and you can't even step out on the balcony without gagging.

Have a great cruise; wish we were doing it again this year. If you have any questions or would like more information, post here or send me a message to craven3 @ roadrunner.com (omitting the spaces, of course).

Charlotte,

Thanks for the Advice. We are booked in E710 Mini Suite with Balcony.

Have booked the Train in Skagway and Helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. Nothing yet for Ketchikan. Would love to go kayaking but partner hates it.

We have personnel choice dinning. Do you have any thought on this? I keep getting mixed reviews. But I like the idea of eating when we want. Hate being stuck to a time.

Sled wheels tour sounds like fun, but my love for dogs and puppies could get me into major trouble. Will not want to leave empty handed.

Thanks for your advice

Freddy,

First, have a GREAT trip! We really like Personal Choice dining. In the first place, if there are others you'd like to eat with, just make a reservation or show up together and you'll be able to do so. The next night you can eat with others you've met. Additionally, we really like being able to show up when we want. If we're tired and want to eat early, we can; if we returned from a tour late and need additoinal time to clean up, it's fine. After several Personal Choice cruises we had to revert to the two seating scheme on our last two cruises, and it was pretty difficult for us to get used to again.

Just in case you change your mind about the train in Skagway, renting a car (the Avis outlet is about two blocks from the pier) and driving from up into Canada is very relaxing (NO traffic) and beautiful. The train has hard bench seats, while the car is more comfortable. Cost for the car for a day was about $55, pre-rented. You do miss the narragion, but we printed out the MilePost guide from http://www.explorenorth.com/library/roads/sklondike-photos1.html It's at least something to consider, and it gets you away from the ship crowd.

Our photos from our trip are posted at http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4392561&a=32211287&pw=

Again, have a great cruise,
Charlotte

Charlotte,

Your pics were great, I can't wait for our trip. Will consider much of your advice. The idea of renting a car is on the list.

Have been watching the Travel Channel tonight and its all about Alaska.

thanks again.
