We are going to Alaska on Radiance June 2006. We are flying into Anchorage. We booked land tour through Denali first and then Talkeetna and Fairbanks where we fly back up to Anchorage. We then board motorcoach to Seward where we will pick up the cruise ship. Has anyone done the cruise like this. How long of a ride is it from Anchorage to Seward? They kind of threw in the price of the plane ride back up to Anchorage. I have no idea what kind of plane we will be on for that trip. They mention a Wilderness Tundra tour early morning on second day in Denali. Has anyone done this? Someone said it is on a schoolbus for like 7 hours. I know the brochure says we can have the afternoon to book other excursions or just be on our own so I wouldnt think it would take 7 hours. Just curious. What is the best company to book with for glacier walking and dog sledding. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks Lynn

That tour will give you a good basic look at interior Alaska (I like the idea of flying back to Anchorage - that's not commonly done). I've been on the Tundra Wilderness Tour in Denali a dozen times or so. The 7 hours (minimum) on a school bus may seem like a long time, but it passes quickly - the scenery and wildlife when you go that far in (the Toklat River - or Stoney Ridge if "The Mountain" is visible) are amazing. From Anchorage to Seward is 2 1/2 hours if you make no stops.

For the best helicopter/dogsled tour operators, you can take your pick. All the operators in Alaska have top-notch reputations - you'll have a ball. Book directly rather than through the ship (I prefer giving my money to the operators rather than ticket agents) - http://www.temscoair.com , http://www.coastalhelicopters.com or http://www.flightseeingtours.com

Thanks Murray. After looking at your all of your wonderful photos I wish we were going today. You said your cruise was in May. It looks like you had excellent weather. What were you warned about the buffets? Should we stay clear of them? The Radiance looks like a beautiful boat but then I have nothing to compare her to since this will be our first cruise. Thanks for all your information.

Yes, Lynn, we had some superb weather despite the poor forecasts. And we had been warned that the buffets are so good that they turn normal people into gluttons - its true! I think we'll be going again next May or early June.
