In Alaska you dress in layers. It can get in the 70's and even low 80's now and than but it can also be in the 40's to 50's. You will need rain gear especially in Ketchikan which is a rain forest. The weather can change many times a day that is why you wear layers.

During the day you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in from shorts to all out winter gear. Dinner time on most cruise ships is when the dress codes come out. They do not want shorts and t-shirts in the dining rooms. In your room every night on the ship there will be a news letter for the next day. This will tell you what the dress code is for the following day. Caual for dinner is pants and shirt some lines do not want jeans. Formal nights a dark suit or tux is suggested by the cruise lines.

The exceptions on the dress would be eating in the buffet on some lines.
