Alaska on the Coral

The price dropped yesterday for a southbound cruise from Whittier to Vancouver so we went ahead and booked. We just have three questions for you experienced people.

The TA was clear about preferring the port side on a southbound trip. Is it really that important? We went with his suggestion, but if we get offered an upgraded cabin on the starboard side what would you recommend?

From the basic info we have at this stage, it looks like we actually check in at the Eagan Convention Center, not Whittier. That sounds like a good idea, but does Princess pay for the bus to Whittier or is that an extra charge?

We are on the Emerald deck, aft over the Universe Lounge. Is noise a problem?

I know it's always up for debate, but I prefer starboard southbound, as you are nearer land and can watch the mountains and waterfalls as you sail by them. You will probably be flying to Anchorage and will check in at the Convention Center there. If you pay for a Princess transfer, they take you by bus to Whittier, otherwise it's up to you to get to Whittier on your own. I believe there are limousine services available in Anchorage if you wish to go that way. We used Limousines of Alaska to go from Whittier to Anchorage last time, and the Princess transfer several times. I have no idea about the noise level you might experience, but someone else may have more information about that. Have a great trip!

Thank you.

It looks like the Pricess transfer costs $55, which seems to be in the reasonable range. The alternative looks like the transfer companies that will pick us up at the hotel and take us straight to Whittier. Is it possible to bypass the Convention Center and check in at Whittier?

I would imagine that you would be able to check in at the port in Whittier, but you can always check with your TA or call Princess to check on it. After all, if someone who resides in Whittier were taking the cruise, surely Princess would not expect them to go all the way to Anchorage to check in, then turn around and return to Whittier to board the ship. It's better to check, though. I wish I were going with you, as the Island is one of my very favorite ships!
