Just posted my review for my northbound Alaska cruise on the Carnival Spirit if anyone wants to check it out. Also ask me or email me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reviews. We're going the end of July which is coming up fast (but not fast enough). Any advice on the one thing that stood out as the best experience? Any tips of what to avoid?

Highlight of trip for me was the glaciers. If I had to do it again I would pay the money and take a helicoptor ride out on top of one. Worst thing for me was the shops in Skagway. Just about every one had the exact same thing.

Actually, the shops EVERYWHERE were pretty much the same. Lots of the same stuff. Lots of jewelry - as it you could not buy it at home.

In fact, we opted to stay on the ship in Sitka. Small town. Had to take a boat shuttle. Not a vacation for us.

Did you see us in Sitka? We were there before you (Infinity) and you parked closer to shore. I didn't see you guys either!!!! :)

How was embarkation / debarkation and the airport experience? Others posters have voiced frustration with that aspect of the trip. (We're Carnival Northbound so that means we fly in to Vancouver)

A suggestion that I do not think was included in the review regards the day you actually cruise up to the glacier.

This takes place in the late afternoon into early evening on that day. If you are at early sitting for dinner, I would suggest skipping it, unless you happen to have a very good window seat on one side of the other of the ship. Actually, this is a good day to eat the buffet as you can eat when you want. You really should be out on deck during this time, no matter how cold. If you do the fancy supper club that night, shoot for 7pm or later.

We had late sitting dinner which worked about good for the College Fjord glacier viewing. We just put on some warm clothes and what we were going to wear to dinner on and went out and viewed the glaciers. We were turned around heading out by dinner time. They did move up the early sitting dinner but it would still interfere with you seeing the glaciers. I guess it is just your choice. Do whatever you want to do.

I thought boarding went fairly good we got to vancouver around 11:30 and were in our room by 2:30. that includes going through candian customs and getting from the airport to the ship. I was on the north bound May 19th. We got to college Fjord during dinner also they moved the early setting up and the late setting back. We had a great view during dinner as we were close to the windows.

Vancouver headache..

Recently returned on a RC cruise and land tour. The Vancouver Airport experience was really something I wish to forget and NEVER experience again!! Firstly, I was nearly tackled trying to get a porter for our luggage. Very POOR communication skills and the unorderly rush for baggage. NOT needed..but then there were lines and passports needed a few times in the same building!! I mean..gee, is there a REAl reason for that?? The worst was flying Air Canada and their carry on luggage restrictions which was NOT at all communicated to us before we got to the desk. (The cruise line RC..who made flight arrangements made NO mention of all of it which I believe was VERY important!!) To say the least, the attitude and policy really was poor and the extra cost almost $200 was even worse. I will never fly AC again ever!! And Vancouver Airport?? A nightmare to be prepared for.
