I will be going on an Alaskan cruise on the Island Princess in May. I haven't booked any shore excursions yet and I was wondering what is the one shore excursion people have done that made the trip special for them. Also has anyone stayed at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver and what was the hotel like?

Ten thumbs up for horseback excursion w southeast tours www.southeasttours.com - provides a tour into the Yukon - up past the beautiful lake called Emerald Lake! Gorgeous scenery - excellent, friendly guides and service! I also went on the Whitepass train ride but I liked the tour into the Yukon better.

Hi!
Looks like we are on the same cruise! We are staying at the Pan Pacific too! lol
We have already booked our excursions. With all the excellent advise from these boards we are going fishing out of Ketchikan, Captain Larry whalewatching out of Juneau, and the helicopter/dog sledding in Skagway. Way too excited here!

The must do excursions are a helicopter ride out onto a glacier and a whale watch in Juneau with Capt Larry. Although rather pricey the helicopter ride and glacier landing is worth every pennie and than some. The best helicopter rides are in Juneau and Skagway IMHO.

You're going to get so many different answers you'll still be confused. : ^ )

We loved the White Pass Rail Trip in Skagway.

Try to get to Mendenhall glacier in Juneau. You can catch a bus from the dock. Don't need to pre-book. There are tours available as well which do more than just go to the glacier.

Mt. Roberts tram is beautiful. Not if you're afraid of heights however. This also does not need to be pre-booked. The tram is right at the doc.

A lot will depend on weather as well.
