All About the Gift Exchange

The gift exchange is the most popular thing we do on these cruises, and we are seeing more people joining in each time.
There was supposed to be a $ limit on the gifts.. but that went out the window long ago :lol Just try to keep it reasonable.
We recommend that you bring things that are not only easy for you to carry, but for the recipient to pack also.
NO food articles that will have someone up against the wall while a police dog sniffs them as they disembark :grin A ham may be a good gift, but it will have to be eaten ON the ship.. remember.. you are not allowed to carry foodstuff off.
The Pancake mix would be OK, but a box of Florida oranges would not.
And not all gifts are serious.. ask Beryl what she got one year :lol
Our last gift was semi-serious.. those flip flop coasters are for fun.
I just hope whomever got them did see me walking around with my wine glass with one on, and knew what they were for :lol
We have suggested in the past that you bring something from your State/country.. or even Christmas ornaments...
Our only stipulation with anything "Christmas" is that the bag or wrapping that it is in is also "Christmas". Not everyone is of the same faith, so this way it flags this for what it is.
Those small gift bags are a good way to ‘wrap†things.
We put no names on the outside of the gift, but if you want to put your name inside where it can not be seen, then that is fine.
All the gifts are put on a table.
We choose one person to go first, and then the person who provided that gift is next.. and so on.
If you bring a gift.. you get a gift.. if you bring one gift as a couple.. then you only get one gift... simple!
It is such fun, Kinda Like a bonus Christmas. Plus it is a great ice breaker.

Thoughts on where to get gifts.
Try stopping in the gift shop at highway or turnpike rest area near you. I know the ones on the Ohio turnpike always have tons of "Ohio" logo items, like things that say "Ohio State Buckeyes."
Or you could try a gift shop at any local well-known spot. Like your city's sport stadium would have items like a baseball cap with your team's logo on it. Guys always seem to like baseball caps.
Just be sure you take the wrapping or gift bag with you, do NOT wrap anything before you get to the ship if you are flying. Another thing to use for wrap is the funny paper from your local newspaper.
The gift exchanges are really a lot of fun, 1 of the highlights of a group cruise.
