Am I on a repositioning cruise?

I'm booked on the Summit April 30th for a 7 day western caribbean. It seems to be the only cruise of this itinerary and it's sandwiched between a 4 day western caribbean and a 14 night transcanal. Is this a repositioning cruise? If so, are there drawbacks?

No, this Summit cruise is not a repositioning cruise.

When I spoke to the future cruise sales manager on the Summit last fall about this cruise, she said that after the itinerary was published, management decided to change two Summit sailing dates.

Since the Summit was not starting the Panama Canal sailing until May 7, there was 11-days free for another cruise or two.

This seven-day cruise in Fort Lauderdale return. You'll have the same great service as usual.

Hi Karen,

A repositioning cruise will generally depart from one port and will terminate at a different port. This assumes that most cruises depart from and return to the same port. Some cruises, such as in the Mediteranean, will sail from one port to another, such as from Barcelona to Venice, and then take a new group of passengers on the return sequence of the same ports. Most repositioning cruises are from the Caribbean to Europe in the spring ( or to Alaska) and return to the Caribbean in the fall. Hope this helps.

A repostioning cruise positions the ship for a new sailing area. For example, the ships do Caribbean itineraries in the winter. Come spring, one ship will move to New York to do Bermuda. Another ship will move to the Med for Europe. The cruise to take them to their new itinerary is a repostioning cruise. Just because a ship departs from one port and disembarks passengers from another port does not make it a repositioning cruise for example: Northbound and Southbound Alaska trips. This is the normal cruise. However, the cruise to bring the ship to the Alaska departure port from its winter cruise itinerary is the repostioning cruise.
