Ring in the New Year with MSC Cruises in a place you have always dreamed of visiting! Choose between the fascinating Atlantic Ocean, the untamed nature of Africa, the unique experience of winter in the Mediterranean or the wild revelry of celebrations in Latin America. For New Year's Eve 2008 MSC Cruises offers nine different itineraries aboard its elegant ships on the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.


  • THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA
MSC Fantasia
Celebrate New Year's Eve in elegance and style aboard the MSC Fantasia, the new flagship that will be inaugurated on 18 December in Naples. The ship will depart from Genoa on 28 December (it will be also possible to board at Naples on Saturday, 27 December and disembark at Civitavecchia on Sunday, 4 January) on an 8-night Western Mediterranean cruise stopping in Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar. The ship will first head to Barcelona for a half-day tour of the Spanish city. The next stop will be Lisbon, where visitors can choose between seeing a fado performance or taking a pleasant walk through the narrow streets of the Alfama quarter. After a technical call at Gibraltar, the cruise will continue to Malaga, with its splendid cathedral and the nearby Costa del Sol. The final stop will be in Civitavecchia, where passengers can take a trip into Rome to see the Imperial Forums or tour the city, visiting its churches and palaces dating from the Baroque era.

MSC Poesia
The ship will depart from Genoa on Monday, 29 December (it will be also possible to board at Naples on 28 December) on an 11-night cruise to Corsica, Greece, Egypt, Malta and Tunisia. The first stop will be in Ajaccio, where passengers can visit the beautiful old town and the house in which Napoleon Bonaparte was born. The ship will then continue to Messina, the city on the strait near beautiful Taormina, which is famous for its lively social life and the perfectly preserved Greek theatre. The ship will then head to the luxuriant island of Rhodes. Next call is Alexandria to admire the pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus and the Valley of the Temples with the enigmatic Sphinx. More art can be seen at Valletta, whose cathedral holds Caravaggio's famous "Beheading of St.John the Baptist". After a stop at Tunis, where visitors can immerse themselves in the colours and scents of Medina, the final call will be in Naples, where passengers can visit the archaeological site of Pompeii, the Roman city buried under Vesuvius' lava.


  • THE CARIBBEAN SEA
MSC Lirica
The ship will depart from Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, 27 December on a 7-night cruise stopping in Florida, Mexico, the Cayman Islands and the Dominican Republic. The cruise will first stop at Key West, then continue on to Cozumel in Mexico, where passengers can admire the numerous ruins of the Mayan civilization before diving into the pristine waters of Xel-Ha Lagoon. The ship will then call at Grand Cayman and wind up the voyage at Cayo Levantado for an unforgettable excursion on Samana Bay.


  • SOUTH AMERICA
MSC Musica
The ship will depart from Santos on Friday, 26 December on a 7-night cruise to discover Brazil. After a first call at Ilheus for a panoramic tour of the city and a visit to the ancient cocoa factory, the ship will stop at Salvador de Bahia for a tour of the city's historic area dating to the 17th century. Next stop: Buzios, where visitors can sample tropical fruit while relaxing on Tortuga beach. The arrival of the New Year will be celebrated in Copacabana with a special fireworks display; the ship will then depart for Ilhabela.

MSC Opera
The ship will depart from Santos on Friday, 26 December on a 9-day cruise to discover Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. The ship will call at Buenos Aires, where passengers can visit the Palermo Quarter and La Boca with its famous Calle Caminito. The ship will then head to Punta del Este for a tour of the exclusive beaches frequented by international celebrities. After a technical call at Imbituba, the cruise will continue on to Porto Belo, where an excursion can be made to Florianopolis on the Island of Santa Catarina.

MSC Sinfonia
Departure from Rio de Janeiro on Friday, 26 December for an 8-day cruise to explore fascinating Brazil. The cruise will call at Salvador de Bahia, Ilheus and Buzios before continuing on to Copacabana Bay to celebrate the New Year. Final stop: the beautiful beaches of Ilha Grande.

MSC Armonia
This 10-day New Year's celebration cruise will depart from Buenos Aires on Sunday, 28 December. The ship will sail for two days before reaching Ilha Grande, where the fireworks in Copacabana Bay will welcome the New Year. The next stops will be Buzios and Rio de Janeiro, where passengers can ascend to the summit of Mount Corcovado to admire the monumental statue of Christ. On the return voyage the ship will call at Ilhabela, where visitors can take an excursion to Curral beach with its crystal-clear waters. The final stop will offer a plunge into the lively social life of Punta del Este in Uruguay.


  • THE INDIAN OCEAN
MSC Rhapsody
This small ship of the MSC Cruises fleet will depart from the port of Durban on Saturday, 27 December for an unforgettable 11-night voyage to explore the wonders of South Africa, Reunion and Mauritius. After sailing for three days, the ship will call at Port des Galets and then continue on to Port Louis, where visitors can go on an excursion to the most elegant and famous beaches on Mauritius.


  • OCEANIC CROSSING
MSC Orchestra
This is a 17-night transatlantic cruise from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean Sea. The ship will leave Genoa on Tuesday, 16 December and make its first stop in nearby Marseille, allowing passengers to tour the old town or make an excursion to the Palais des Papes in Avignon. The next stop will be Barcelona, where visitors can spend a day exploring the Gothic Barrio and Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. The ship will then sail to Casablanca with its lively souk. Before crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the ship will make a final stop at Funchal on Madeira, where passengers can make a complete tour of the island with its picturesque views and typical fishing villages. The ship will reach the Caribbean Sea after five days of sailing, making its first two stops at Pointe-à-Pitre on the island of Guadeloupe and at St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. The ship will then continue to Puerto Rico with a visit to the 17th-century city of San Juan. Final stop: Fort Lauderdale, located close to lively Miami.
