Another AOS Dinning ? for BruinSteve

Really anyone can answer, but I know BruinSteve has been on AOS recently.

I am going on a 7 night West Caribbean Cruise leaving Feb 20th and found out my scheduled dinning time is 6:00 pm.

My questions is about Dress Codes as I am hearing conflicting information. Some tell me there is only 1 Formal night while others say it is 3 Formal Nights.

So what is the scoop?
Does Formal mean men with jacket and tie, and women in dress or dress slacks as it does elsewhere?

Any info appreciated from anyone as I need to know what to pack. FWIW I hate Formal as I am on vacation, not applying for a job or going to church. What it really boils down to is I hate to have to take more clothes than I need too. Especially a suit when plane travel is involved. :(

A: There are three distinct types of evenings onboard: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are:

Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women

Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women

Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women

I can copy and paste the chart with the number of formal nights for a week, however, it will reformat and be impossible to read. There are two formal nights for a one week cruise. Here is a link to the Royal Caribbean website that explains it ...

There are so many venues to dine at that you could duck out of formal nite very easily. You will find that in the event you don't want to pass up the nice meal in the MDR on formal night that while most people choose to follow the dress suggestion, there are some who march to their own drummer and wear alternative styles. I have rarely seen anyone turned away unless they are really indecent. Even saw a ball cap worn during dinner at a table near us, so there is no accounting for tastes (or manners)! Have fun!

Yeah that is what I expected. I talked to my MIL and FIL who have made several cruises said the dress code is not strictly enforced. My FIL says all he wears on either formal nights or smart casual nights he just wears dockers, button down shirt with a tie, and a sports jacket. MIL just wears dress slacks and a nice blouse. They said you wil see a couple of stiffs wearing tuxedos and cocktail dresses, but they are the exception.

My main objection is just taking a suit and formal dress on a plane. Not real convenient, nor do they arrive in good condition unless you ride 1st class and carry it on to hang up in the closet. :(
