Another Belize Question

Were hitting Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel after Christmas. I thought I had the tours all figured out, but I was too late to get Cool Breeze in Belize (full).
Is there a way to get off the ship and hang out at a nice resort with a pool and a beach? We have several hours in port and it seems all tours to the beaches have stops for snorkeling. I think we'll get enough snorkeling in all the other ports.

No beaches within walking distance of Belize City. The water near the city is muddy and murky and I wouldn't advise going it on your own there as they have a very high crime rate. I'd recommend the cave tubing tour and plan to do that next time I am there.

I don't think you will have any trouble hiring someone to take you. Just make sure you use someone right off the tenders instead of in the street where the taxis are. The guys with the signs know what ship you are on and are more likely to get you back in time. Keep in mind that Belize is on central time. Always agree upfront with your driver on price and time. Ask if they will stay with you while there or agree to pick you back up. Don't pay until they pick you up if they aren't going to wait with you! They'll come back for their money. If you know the name of some resorts and beaches that will be helpful and ask the advice of your driver. It wouldn't be a bad idea to take your passports just in case. It is a foreign country after all. I really enjoyed Belize. Most people are quite friendly and know a lot about the culture.

Hi KSols,

For additional tour ideas you might want to check out http://www.ljtoursbelize.com. They have similar tours as the ship and are very reasonable. The guys name is Joel Torres.

Have fun in Belize and your other destinations!

The tour to the Mayan ruins by Guatamela is great. You can climb the pyramid and the ruin area is in the middle of the jungle, reached only by hand cranked raft. I really do not know the spelling but is is something like Xanichantlich and is on most tours called Mayans and Marimbas. the tour is a full day but well worth it. The ruins have many once in lifetime sights: the pyramid, a Mayan ball court, etc. I agree with the other posts that Belize city is not a nice place and even our tour on the bus said so. the tour to the ruins goes through the city and you get to see it - abject poverty is rampant. the outlying countryside is beautiful and the jungle is very interesting.

If you are looking for a nice beach to go to our friends raved about

Sun Kissed Goff's Caye beach and snorkeling excursion. They choose it because they had kids under 10 and they wanted to snorkel and hang out on the beach and they said it was the perfect day.

I belive its only $40 for adults and $30 for kids for a 5+ hr trip so you might want to check it out as an option as there is nothing at all in Belize City for beaches.
