The Associate Director fo the Gainesvill VA was attacked by a disgrunteled employee today at work while handing out awards in the canteen. The employee came up beside the Associate Director and hit him several times in the head, and when he fell down, he struck his head on the counter and also on the floor. This was Jim's boss when he worked at the VA, and they are still very close friends. Please pray for his recovery. He is having a CAT scan now, and besides the broken bones in his face, they fear some kind of a head injury. I really don't know what people are thinking when they do these things. The Associate Director has been there over 20 years and has always been there for the employees as well as the patients. Thank you so much for prayers.

There is so much anger and just plain meaness in this world. I just cannot comprehend it all. Sending healing thoughts to Jim's friend. I sure hope his injuries are not as serious as they sound.

What a horrible thing to have happened! I HOPE the person who attacked him is now a FORMER employee and is getting the psychological help he so desperately needs. Prayers are on the way for a complete and rapid recovery for Jim's former boss.

How horrible. There are so many hideous copy-cat crimes these days.

Jim's friend and former boss is in my prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.

Please update us when you can.

What a horrible thing to happen. I can't imagine what makes people do the things they do. Prayers on the way for him and his family. Also to the people who witnessed the violence.

Many prayers from here for a great outcome and that all turns out well with no major head injury as even tho it sounds bad broken bones will heal - head injuries can be a different story. I am so sorry this happened. It seems that violence is becoming more common every day and as a ER Nurse I remember the days when we didn't have to be concerned but now work behind locked doors. A real shame. Please keep us updated. Susan

This is just an awful thing to hear. My DH was with VA for 40 years, and recently retired. I just told him, and he sends his best wishes for good news with the cat scan. Our prayers will include him.

Thank you all for your prayers. We had an update this morning on his condition, and thank goodness there were no serious head injuries. He has a moderate concussion, but it could have been so much worse. He had to have stitches on his ear, the side of his face, and of course there are numerous bruises and bumps and lumps to his face. He had just had reconstrucion surgery on his nose after a cancer removal, but it looks like no harm was done there. The man that attacked him was realeased this morning and didn't require bail. It makes me wonder just what the judge was thinking. If they hadn't pulled the man off of him, he would most likely be dead. Again, thank you all for your prayers. I don't like what is happening to our society.

I cannot believe they would release that man let alone with no bail. How awful. I'm relieved that the injuries were not more serious.

Thank you for the update, Bev. I'm relieved the man's injuries weren't as serious as first thought, but I, too, can't believe the attacker was released without bail. We hear of similar idiotic decisions here as well. I guess stupidity in legal rulings is endemic.

So glad to hear the good news about his condition - I like the others can't believe the Judge. Something needs to be done about this. Will continue prayers for continued good healing.

What a horrible thing to have happened -- twice! I am also appalled at the Judge's decision. Yet, more importantly, I am relieved that Jim's outcome was not as bad as it could have been. Prayers continue.

I'm so glad he is going to be ok but with as many murders that take place in the work force, I don't know how someone can be released without bail after a serious act of violence. I wonder if the victim had been 1 of the judge's family if the suspect would have been released so easily.

I am glad to read that Jim's friend is going to be alright. As for the attacker getting out without bail don't get me started on our legal system - it's ridiculous that he is walking around and I hope that he gets some help.

Glad that Jim's friend is ok, that is great news. Bad news that the guy is out on the street, must have been deemed to not be a threat to others, but still....
