My wife is after me to do the Alaskan Cruise, and has at least got me thinking about it. I know the scenery is beautiful, but I hate the thought of getting on a cruise ship & having to wear a coat. Any advice as to the best time to go when the weather is warmer?
Thanks,
Doug

Alaska!! My favorite destination! The last time I cruised there, was in early June of 2001. For the most part, we only needed a light jacket in ports. Even when we went on a whale-watching excursion, all in our group, dressed in layers - the last being a waterproof windbreaker. While in Glacier Bay, we did need gloves, hats & coats when we were up on deck. I have only salied there in the months of June & September. Perhaps someone here has been in in late Summer and can help you further. PLEASE don't hesitate to visit Alaska. It is truly not to be missed in my book. I am currently putting together another family & friends group cruise to Alaska for next May.

We have cruised Alaska multiple times. One trip our coldest day was 67 degrees. The weather in Alaska can change quite a bit. Layers are best for Alaska but what is important for Alaska is rain gear especially in Ketchikan. Of course July into the start of August are probably your warmest time but as I said you will still need rain gear.

Believe me the views and things you will see in Alaska are well worth bringing a few extra clothes. For me I love the cold so I don't need jackets during the Alaskan cruise season LOL.

Joe,
I was thinking about doing this over the Christmas Holidays & hoping you would come & join us. Does Herbie have an overcoat? That time of year you may not need your blender, just place the drinks out on the balcony & they will become frozen foo-foos on their own.

Herbie doesn't have an overcoat, but we could probably find him one at the Goodwill. As little as he is it would probably only cost a quarter.
