We were originally going to stay with family in Puerto Rico two days before our cruise but have recently changed our minds. We'd like to see a little of San Juan before we take off on our cruise. Our cruise is leaving San Juan on a Sunday. We are flying into San Juan on Friday. Unfortunately, it is Labor Day weekend so I need to book a hotel quickly. I was told about the Wyndham, but in all honesty, it's a bit pricery, especially the holiday weekend.

I am thinking about the Hotel Milano or the Normandie. Anyone have any advice on either of these?Anyone have any other suggestions for a clean, safe, and economical room not exceeding 125 dollars a night?

The major diff. between them other than location is the Normandie has a pool and you can use the beach next door at the Hilton and the Milano does not have pool nor is it near the beach.Milano is right there in OLD SAN JUAN so it is a good place to stay if you want to walk around town.Everything is in walking distance from the Milano and it is clean and has a roof top place to eat.

I stayed at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan this past May. I got it for $65 per night on Priceline. I recommend that you first to to www.biddingfortravel.com and look at what priceline deals you can get in San Juan. The Caribe is a very nice hotel and upscale. Even $100 or $150 per night for this place is a REAL DEAL. There is a beautiful pool and nice beach there. It is about 15 minutes from the airport and about a 5-10 minute drive from the cruise port and Old San Juan.

Well I went on Priceline and the Normandie accepted my bid. I hope all goes well. What I didn't realize until I saw pictures of the Normandie 2 days ago was that I stayed there 14 years ago when I went to PR with my parents. Funny huh?I dont remember much about the hotel except thinking it was very nice (but I was so young) but the service was a bit slow. Can anyone tell me about the surroundings of the hotel since I dont remember too well? How long to Old San Juan? What is around the immediate area of the hotel in relation to food places?
