We are a family of 6 - 48,46,23,21,20,19 looking at week of January 6th. We were on RCL Explorer in 2001 and are considering it again. We saw the Liberty and it has a a nice itinerary and is 8 days which is appealing. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Ahoy matey and =welcome to cruise @ddicts.

Explorer of the Seas is a great ship. The only one I have sailed on twice, along with two other Voyager class ships.

An 8 day itinerary is appealing, especially if the price is right. Carnival Liberty is a newer ship but for me, I'm sticking with the Voyager Class ship. Those are great for your (and My) age group.

My wife, my daughter, my sister,a friend and I spent 14 days last summer in europe and we thought it was a great ship. My daughter is 23 and the rest of us are in our fifties and we had no trouble finding plenty of things to do. The liberty was one year oldin June.

The Explorer was in great shape in January 2005. It has been my experience that Royal Caribbean keeps their ships in tip top shape. Even the Viking Serenade, the oldest ship in the RCCL fleet back in the fall of 2001 was in good shape. On that cruise some of the carpeting in the high traffic areas was showing signs of wear but that was just two months before she was retired from the RCCL fleet.

For you Viking Serenade fans, she was originally the Scandinavia then the Stardancer. She sailed inder the Crown & Anchor from 1989 until February of 2002 and is now the Island Escape. Here's a link with some great pics.

I have been on both the Voyager Class ship, Voyager of the Seas, and 2 of the Conquest class ships, the Glory and Valor. While I haven't been on the Explorer or Liberty I can tell you that I had a great time on both classes of ships. However, if you are taking your family I might lean slightly toward the Explorer only because there is more to do on this ship. With the rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, the promenade, etc. there is just no time to be bored. But don't get me wrong I'd be happy to take my family on either ship. Of course if you prefer the itinerary on the 8 day Liberty then that is really something to take into consideration. Good luck deciding....wish I had that kind of decision to make right now!! :) Happy cruising!!
