I want to know if anyone has any pics or information on the Majesty of the Seas new renovations? I have been on Carnival Liberty twice and am going in April to RC M of the S and am so afraid I will be terribly disappointed.

Also is there a lot to do on the RC versus Carnival?

PH8,

Thank you for your help. I think I figured they would see the compasses here easy enough since this is where I posted them. But maybe people don't regularly check the photo section.

I had no idea they would host our cruise ship photos until RCCLCARIB posted his here. The photo posting process is a bit of a hassle at first but once it's done - it works. I couldn't make the compasses readable at the yahoo photo site.

PH8,

Well, it sure would be easier to recognize people if they'd use the same name...or close to it, like you and me.

The pictures are great! What did you think about the ship? Did it feel like new or were they just renovations? How was the show and the food?

I think the ship felt quite new. the only real hints of being an older ship were in the stateroom. Opening the closet showed the very old scratched up clothes rod. And the toilet inside had the stained ring.

The shows were great. All of them. Except I didn't watch the last night's Boogie Wonderland because I've seen it 2 times and wanted to do other stuff.

The food is nicely prepared but I'd really like to see RCI get it together to do a menu change on this ship. The same 3 day menu is beginning to get boring. Especially on the last night. If they want people to show up and tip their wait staff, they should have a great menu that night that gives everyone something to look forward to.

The biggest problem with the renovation is the carpet. Much of it tends to defuzz way to much and you will see rather large pill balls all over it as soon as people begin walking on it again right after they've been vaccuumed up. And the stair seaming was done wrong. Seams should be on the back side of each step but they were done on the front in many areas. This means they get kicked constantly by toes and they are already beginning to split. They will soon have a maintanence issue on their hands.

I still love the ship though - in spite of the removal of the champagne bar and the 2 lovely waterfalls in the windjammer that are no longer with us.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of carnival VS Royal Caribbean?
Royal Caribbean seems a little more elegant in decor when comparing comparable ships - sizes and age. Carnival can be slightly cheaper depending on the time of year and itinerary. Royal Caribbean has a lot more storage space in there rooms when comparing comparable catagory rooms - I don't care what anyone else says. It's true. But a comparable room on Carnival, especially on the older ships, are usually larger in floor space - but give me drawers, cabinets and little places to put things so I don't need the floor for storage.

I think they are both fun and although I lean towards cruising on RCI whenever possible, I will cruise on Carnival if that's what works for me at the time.

Thanks. I went on the Liberty (Carnival Western Caribbean) twice and know that the Majesty of the Seas will be a disappointment to the size of the Liberty. I just hope that it wont be too much of a disappointment. I loved all the activities that Carnival offered. I hope Royal Caribbean offers the same.

Hey MommaBean

I read that you had a junior suite on deck 10 and you were awakened early in the AM by noises on the pool deck. Do you advise I book a junior suite on deck 12(15?) to avoid that nuisance? Also, how bad was the seasickness factor on deck 10? Whats the best way to avoid that in terms of room selection? Thanks so much for your quick response, I am looking to book the Majesty for May.

I stayed in a JS on my last cruise after the revitalization of the Majesty OTS.

Definitly try to stay mid ship (close to the Elevators as possible)

As for the noise....not so bad for me...we stayed in 1540 forward.
If noise is a factor, try to stay underneith the Windjammer cafe vs. the main pool deck.

As for rba0701:
Since the refurbishment, the Majesty of the Seas will be an amazing "short" getaway cruise for your family. She offers the same amount as restaurants as the Carnival Libert...places like the Main Dining Rooms, Johnny Rockets, Compass Deli, Windjammer Cafe, Cafe Latte-tudes, Sorrentos, and Freeze Ice Cream Parlor.

As for the staterooms, that is a different story. If you a traveling with 2 people or less, book a Superior OV Stateroom Deck 9. These re bigger than the staterooms below that measure 122 sg ft!: but the new bedding is INCREDIBLE along with the Plasma TV's. If money isn't a problem, BOOK A SUITE! They are amazing!

We leave in 70 days on her again...can't wait!

We had a GS under the Windjammer and it was indeed noisy during the night..........I think suites should be on deck 9....IMHO..
