Looking for suggestions for excursions for the inside passage trip (Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Victoria).

We're heading out on the Star Princess September 6th and want to know what excursions you might recommend. I know it's all in your preferences, but I think I would enjoy the helicopter tour -- but, want to know if anyone else has traveled the inside passage this summer.

Also, did you book the tours through Princess or independent? Thanks y'all.

Diane

Went to Alaska on the Star May 31-June 7, 2003. Everything was great!
One of our tablemates at supper did the helicopter/dog sled through Princess and loved it although we had perfect weather. The year before we also did an Alaskan cruise and that year our tablemates had their excursion rained out. We booked a Victoria city tour through Princess but did our other excursions through portpromotions.com.
We tend to plan excursions that can go rain or shine and aren't so expensive.
Any other questions - feel free to ask.
You'll love the Star!

PS - the first day at sea was pretty rough since you aren't really in the 'inside passage' but out in the ocean. Quite a few sea sick people that first day but on the way back the ocean was very calm so who knows?!

Can't off hand remember where the Star hits exactly, but if in Skagway, the Yukon/White Pass combination is outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed it. And, in Juneau, you can get to Mendenhall (MGram is the Mistress of this information) via a city bus.

We were on the Star 5/31 through 6/7, too. One of the highlights was a flight to Misty Fjords with Family Air (familyairtours.com). We use independent tour operators. Groups are smaller, service more personal.

We also were picked up by plane in Skagway and flew over Glacier Bay with an icefield landing. I love the flightseeing, but people rave about helicopter landings, too.

Check out dollyvardenalaska.com.

Yes, I was on the Star last August 31th thru the 7th of September. The only excursions
I took were the whale watching in Juneau and the Mt. Roberts tram, also in Juneau.
The whale watching was great. The boat was rocky and one had to hold on fairly well.
We saw bald eagles, sea otters and of course many whales, but with the whales one
only could see them diving so the tail was most of what one saw, but it still was impressive. We had a very nice intelligent guide on our boat. It only rained one day
on our trip which was quite amazing to me. I was so taken with Alaska and the Star
that I am going back on the Star(Lord willing) on September 6, 2003. Every tells me
I should land on a glacier, maybe this time I will. I booked my previous trips thru Princess. When you are on the ship you may see me as I will be doing quite a bit of walking and when I walk, I really walk.

Thanks to everyone for their input - you've been so helpful.

Harold, if you do cruise the Star on 9/6 and I see you whizzing by on your walk, I'll know to give you a shout!
