I have been to Altos de Chavon twice. It is a beautiful artist retreat built atop a hill top overlooking a lush forest and river below. On arriving you thing the site is a couple hundred years old - later you find out it was built in 1976 and has been used as a movie set. Lots of beautiful scenery and cute little shops. You can properly see the total village in an hour or two. There are lots of restaurants with great views. In the evening they have a performances at the 5,000 seat open air amphitheatre. May not be much - but it is the most activity within 100 miles of the port.See following links for the official site:http://www.altosdechavon.com/fs_village.htm
