We booked with Carnival air, from Minneapolis to Miami 3/12 and it happens to be with Northwest. Its kindof scary now with a possible strike. Has anyone heard anything?:S

I haven't heard anything. We are flying Delta that same weekend to California for a March 12th cruise on the Pride....and have had some of the same fears. Hopefully, the 30 day cooling off period won't end until March 31st and our trip will be over by then.

Some friends are going with us and he works for Northwest. They are flying out on the 9th to do some pre-cruise stuff in California. Obviously, if I hear anything from them, I will report it on here.

I hope I am not giving false hope here...but I talked with the wife of the couple that are flying out to California on Northwest and cruising with us on March 12th.....and he has not said anything about there being a problem. He has worked for Northwest for a long time and hopefully his lack of concern is some indication that they don't expect to have any problems flying out in March. (We are flying Delta and they are flying Northwest.)

I don' t know if that is because he doesn't think the pilots will strike....or if that is because there is some 30 day waiting period (as in Delta's case) once both sides of the nego are released. Again, I did not get to talk directly with him....but I did talk with his wife and she said he hasn't mentioned there being a problem.

As for the flights after the month of March, it is anyone's guess where Northwest or Delta is concerned. Like I said earlier, it would have been hard on us because we are flying on Delta points (since my husband flew Delta almost every week last year) and we certainly did not like the idea of having to pay $2,000.00 for airline tickets.

Hopefully, since the flight attendants worked out a deal, the pilots will to. I mean flight attendants don't begin to make the money that pilots do and if they can work it out...certainly pilots can.

Keeping fingers crossed for y'all and our Delta flight....

Antron: Sadly there are some pilots determined to "fall on their sword" (ie strike which would be the end of Northwest and leaving a lot more folks than just pilots out of work)...but hopefully they are in the minority.

Personally, I would like to know the whole story. I don't like articles that say "we took a 39% cut" or they are asking for 300 million in concessions. A person can not make an informed opinion with those kinds of stats. 39% of what. ($30,000 a year or $250.000 a year.) Even after these cuts, Northwest pilots are paid 28% above the norm. Now these new talks are trimming most of that., bot not all..so they would still be paid "above the average wage" for their field.

The bottom line is that airline pilots are not the rare commodity they used to be and the aviation business is not the prestigeous way of travel it used to it. It is plain transportation and pilots are a dime a dozen. With downsizing in the industry, there are no pilot jobs to go to earning near what they earn now. If they strike they are basically "retiring" and losing a good portion of their pension because the government "subs" pension would not be near what the Northwest pension is.

Let's just hope that enough pilots think about their future and the other employees even if they don't feel they owe any loyality to US (the flying public who has been keeping them in "high cotton" all these years) !

The pilots and management made a deal...so you guys are good to go!!!!! YEA !!!!!!

(until the next time)

Now not only do I have to worry about watching the rates and the weather when I book a cruise... I have to make sure everyone's contract is still in place.

Not....I will just drive from now on!!!

WOW, what a releive. i am glad all of us that have tickets with nw will be able to concentrate on the good time we are going to have when we get to our destinations. i was so hoping they would get together and come up with a solution and they did. im sure some are not happy, but at least the company is still in tact.

Yep, now all we have to do is make sure Delta stays in the air through Saturday. As long as I get there, I don't care how I get back!!!!
