Awesome....I actually have a friend who will be getting on board with his family on the 13th. Have you been on the Liberty before? I will be on a 13 night T/A from BCN-NYC from 11/16-11/29 and then will be boarding the Liberty for a few days later for 2 weeks! I hope I'm not all "cruised out" by the time the 13th come around...LOL No,....I don't think that's possible! :pride

Hi Brian. I don't think there is a way to get cruised out. :lol There are 5 of us family members going - all adults. I haven't been on Carnival since my girls were in High School. I think it was 2001. I looked at the layout of the Liberty and it looks similar to the Princess Grand ships. I could be wrong when I see it. This is a inexpensive get away for us. I just made the final payment so now I can start getting excited. :D It won't be long before you sail. That transatlantic will be incredible!

Yea..I just made my final payment today. This was definitely a very inexpensive trip. Have you been on this itinerary or to any of these ports? I was in St. Maarten in March of this year and Orient Beach was the greatest, most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. As for San Juan....I was just there for a weekend about 2 weeks ago. It's alright, but not nearly as impressive as our other stops. Plus, we are barely there long enough to get off the ship. It's all about St. Thomas and St. Maarten! LOL =docdance

I'm not going to be on this cruise, but just returned yesterday from the Liberty, if you have any questions, pleas let me know. I'd be glad to answer if I can.

Awesome! What was your itinerary? What was your favorite part of the ship? Anything in particular that you didn't like about it?

Any feedback on the Liberty is appreciated. I was on the Valor in March, and I think the two ships are similar, but I'm not sure.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian. I've been on this itenerary many times. We won't be in San Juan long enough to do anything except head to a local bar.

I've been to Orient Beach a few times on St. Maartin. I've rented a car before and driven around (easy to do). I am not sure what we are going to do. Maybe take a local bus (they look like taxi's) over to Maho Beach and watch the planes come in. The last time we were there, my BF and I just got off the ship and drank $1 corona's and talked to the locals. It was fun and relaxing.

I think we might go to St. John's when we go to St. Thomas. It depends on which pier we go to. I haven't checked it out. If it's Crown Bay, maybe we will just head over to Sapphire Beach so the guys can rent jet ski's.

We are going on this cruise more for the getaway than the ports of call.

BTW - I'm going to ask for one of the moderators to move this post to the Carnival Roll Call. This way anyone else going may see it. :)

That's great info Maureen. I was in San Juan for a weekend earlier this month, and you're right...nothing much to do there in the short time we have. Have you gone over to St. John's before? I hear that it is supposed to be beautiful. The last time I was in St. Thomas, we headed up to Meagan's Bay and I was all that impressed. I'm looking for a place that has the best beach and water, but also has food/beverage services on the beach. Kinda like what they have at Orient Beach in St. Maarten. My only concern with going over to St. John's is that I'm not sure what to expect with the beaches, etc... Any advice??

Thanks again,
Brian

St. John's is beautiful. It's better to go on your own than through a tour. There are 2 water taxi's. One is in Charlotte Amarlie and the other in Red Hook. The one in Red Hook is more frequent. Just take a taxi over to Red Hook, buy a round trip ticket for the ferry (it saves time on the way back), take a taxi to Trunk Bay, there is an admission fee to get into the park since it's part of the US National Park service. The beach is spectacular. Now, they don't have services like at Orient Beach but do have a small store to purchase drinks and sandwiches. They don't have chairs for rent so bring an extra towel or a beach mat. They have snorkel equipment to rent and I don't know what else (haven't been there in a couple years). The good thing is - no vendors to harrass you. Catching a taxi back and catching the ferry is easy. You just have to watch the time. If you head over early morning, 2 - 2 1/2 hrs is plenty of time to enjoy the view. It's MUCH better than Megan's bay (which to me only looks good from up above).

Here's a couple photos that Red & E took a few years ago.

If you decide to beach it on St. Thomas, I would suggest Sapphire Beach or Coki Beach. Sapphire Beach has a time share resort there so you can rent chairs and snorkling equipment. They have parasailing and Jet ski's to rent. We may end up there as my gang may want to do the Jet ski thing.

I've been to many beaches in the Carribean. I personally prefer the ones that don't have all the vendors and are crowded like Orient Beach where it's wall-to-wall chairs and bars. I think we went to the far end which is called Orient Bay or something like that the last time to avoid the crowds.
