Anyone heard of balcony issues on Coral/Island Princess

My travel agent told me that some of her clients complained about the balconies on the Island Princess. She said something about how they are "stacked" etc. She said that Cat BF were fine. Anyone know what she is talking about?

She's referring to the way that the upper deck balconies are set back from the decks below ...same as all the Grand class ships. The complaint would be that the Balconies from the Aloha & Baja decks look directly down on the balconies on the Caribe & Dolphin decks ...and Caribe overlooks Dolphin.

If you want to avoid being "looked down upon" completely, get one on Aloha or Baja. On Caribe, the balconies are half-in half-out, if you're sitting on the outer half, the Baja balconies overlook you, if you sit on the innner half they don't (the inner half is under the overhanging Baja balcony. Caribe is the best deal as the balconies are twice the size.

There's no hiding on Dolphin deck balconies, you are overlooked from all 3 decks above.

DJA thanks for the info. I booked a cat BA cabin on the Carib deck on the Island Princess because from the layout in the ships maps, the balcony looked larger than othe Catagories. The price was not that much more. You are the first to confirm my belief.

On the Coral Princess there are two bump outs on either side of the ship, for the most part all the balconies are private in the bump out areas. The exceptions are the Aloha deck and Baja 701 back, these balconies can be viewed from the Lido deck if someone leans over the railing. I believe that the Island is the same.

I was on the Coral in Feb. and in Aloha 503...There are only 4 Mini Suites on the Aloha and Baha and Caribe that bump out...There was more privacy as most people don't lean over Lido that far...Course you are taking a chance if you want THAT much privacy HEHEHE...But basically the only day I noticed that balconies were mobbed and full with cruisers-makes sense- was Gatun Lake canal crossing day......Joanne

Thats Gr8 news as we are in the rear bumpout area on the Caribe deck. By any chance are these balconies partially covered like the balconies on the Caribe deck on the Grand Class ships???

Caribe Deck on the bump out is totally covered as are Dolphin and Emerald.

Are there any mini suites on Dolphin deck that are fully or partially covered, or are they all completely exposed? We're doing the 15 day round trip out of Long Beach to Hawaii and my wife was concerned about the full exposure balcony. Thanks.

Take a look here, Frank.

It'll show you what the balconies are like. Personally, we love the open balconies on the Dolphin Deck. You can lay out there and get full sun or look right up at night and see millions of stars.

p.s. - The balconies under the huge overhang are the Aloha Deck cabins, then it's Baja Deck, then the big balconies on the Caribe Deck and then the deck that sticks out the most is the Dolphin Deck mini suites.

Also, if you look further down the picture, you'll notice the balcony cabins that are very small and are on the "bump out" section of the ship. They are fully covered but only 25 SF total space on the balcony.

Thanx for the =photo Lady Jag. I think I will have to try and persuade someone sailing on the Coral soon to try and get a phot of that Caribe 641 balcony. :grin

Einstein - From the way your cabin looks in the brochure, your balcony looks bigger than the Caribe Deck mini suite balconies in the midships area (that have the 25 SF balconies). Is it just me, or does it look bigger to anyone else too? (balconies C641, C639, C624, C626)

Could be, Einstein, but those are the dimensions the reps gave me at Princess and you know how reliable they are! :lol :lol

U have a valid point Lady Jag. :grin I guess it is enough to at least go out and perhaps admire the outside scenery for a few moments anyways. Might even be able to fit 2 mini chairs out there. :grin I think we will have some more valid photos possibly in the near future when some more @ddicts return form their ventures on the Coral. :thumb

Hopefully, someone will post some pics of either the Coral or Island soon. There are a lot of difference cabin configurations on this class of ship and it has me wondering what they all look like. Anyone going soon that can take some cabin & balcony pics?
