hello all, my first cruise is in december on the VOTS to the Mexican Riviera.
i have no idea what to expect but i am anticipating some cool stuff.
i have shore excursions booked for cabo and PV but what about mazatlan? is there anything fun there? none of the excursions seemed interesting to me.

also, which dolphin swim is worth it? i'm a college student so i'm trying not to go overboard here, but if it's a once in a lifetime never forget kind of memory then i'm up for it! any suggestions?

thank you everyone for being so nice and responsive so far! i appreciate your feedback and your upbeat personalities!! HAPPY SAILS!

Personally, I think the dolphin swim is over-rated, but fun once. It's definitely something I wouldn't do again just because we were disappointed with it.

We had the most fun in Mazatlan just hiring an open-air taxi at the pier. After you walk off the ship, you take a tram-like thing to the pier shops and that's where the taxi drivers are. Look at some of the city tours described on the RCI shore excursion website and get an idea of what you want to see.

Negotiate the price ahead of time with the driver. We had a lot of fun seeing the sites quickly - ahead of the slow-moving bus loads of people. The taxi driver spoke a small amount of English; I spoke a small amt. of Spanish and between us, we were able to communicate with a lot of laughing in between. :lol

We did Mazatlan in March 2006. Went in port and booked an excursion in a samll van. We thought it would be great, being only about 10, saw the Golden Zone, drove through downtown, but did still too much shopping for our taste. If I were to do it again, I would book an excursion with my husband and myself only.
